In The Wild Eight, a fiery plane crash is only the beginning of the ordeal. Stranded with seven other survivors in snowy Alaska, you’ll have to withstand blizzard conditions and local wildlife if you’re to have any chance of survival. However, these aren’t the only threats you’ll face — there’s danger lurking in the shadows, and only the most cunning players will be able to anticipate its attack.

The team at Eight Points, the studio that developed The Wild Eight, know a thing or two about the cold. The company is based in Yakutia, a region officially known as the Sakha Republic. The republic’s capital, Yakutsk, is often referred to as the coldest city on the planet, with average winter temperatures often falling below -30°F.

The cold is deadly in The Wild Eight. Head out into a blizzard without the proper clothing, and you won’t last long at all. This is a game that isn’t afraid to make things difficult for players. In fact, Eight Points decided to introduce an easy mode in the game’s first patch after being released via Steam Early Access last week. Of course, the original, intended difficulty setting is still available — if you’re up to the challenge.

In the early stages of The Wild Eight, players will be concerned with tasks like finding gear to offset the cold and repelling attacks from wild animals. You and your seven companions will have to work together in order to survive.

However, as time goes on and you start to discover more weird anomalies in the snowy Alaskan landscape, there are more questions to be answered. What’s going on in the shadows? What events led up to your plane crash? Finally — and perhaps most importantly — is everyone in your group of survivors to be trusted?
