Much of Battlefield 1: In the Name of the Tsar revolves around intense and bloody infantry combat. Not so with the Galicia map, though, which in many ways feels like a more traditional Battlefield combat zone compared to maps like Lupkow Pass or Tsaritsyn. Here are the essential tips you need to know to come out on top when battling across Galicia’s war-torn countryside.

Map Overview

Galicia is a medium-sized map and among one of the flattest maps in all of Battlefield 1. It’s a barren wasteland of fox holes, trenches, and destroyed shacks. Planes and ground vehicles can be found aplenty, and the flat terrain makes it simple for ground vehicles to navigate from one point to the next. A railroad cuts across the northern portion of the map, while a shallow river weaves through the eastern part of the map and loops back around down through the western portion.

Spawn Information

The Austro-Hungarian forces to the west spawn closest to the E flag, a small compound consisting of a few buildings. The Russian army on the eastern side spawn closest to the A flag, a makeshift supply area that offers little cover. It does, however, sport an anti-air gun.

Key Features And General Tips

Want to learn more about the map’s features and how to utilize them to your advantage? Here are some helpful tips to help you achieve victory.

Keep Your Head Down

Due to the open-field nature of Galicia, it’s always important to stay low to the ground. Standing up straight makes you stick out like a sore thumb, so be sure to crouch and crawl your way around the battlefield. Use the map’s numerous foxholes and trenches for cover. If you do have to sprint from one hole to the next, try to lay down some suppressive fire first.

Obtain Aerial Supremacy

Vehicles reign supreme on Galicia. Planes in particular can excel by performing bombing and strafing runs on grouped up enemies attempting to capture one of the map’s objectives. There are few buildings to speak of, which means players running across the open combat field also make for easy pickings.

Be Patient

It’s tempting to just sprint around the map and attempt to score some kills, but running across an open field is a death sentence on Galicia. Thankfully, with a little restraint and patience, you can use that fact to your advantage to wrack up points. LMGs and snipers will want to take up defensive positions in foxholes or destroyed windmills in order to pick off easy targets running between points without cover.

Class Tips

As is the case with every map, each class will have areas and tasks they excel at and others that they will want to avoid. Make sure you’re prepared with these class-specific tips.

Assault

Though the open nature of Galicia puts the assault class at a bit of a disadvantage when it comes to general combat, the class’s anti-vehicle strengths make them essential to victory. Armored vehicles love to storm headfirst into objectives on this map. Assault players will want to plan accordingly and unleash a flurry of anti-vehicle explosives when the time is right. Destroying an enemy vehicle will cripple an enemy offensive and allow your team to make an offensive of their own.

Medic

The medic’s mid-range kit works well on Galicia, where open spaces are the name of the game. Stick with your squad and always keep your head down. That way when your teammates get killed by a sniper’s bullet, you’ll be able to revive them and continue your push towards the objective.

Support

Open fields are a dream come true for the support class. Equip a LMG with a bipod, set up in a trench or foxhole, and let the enemies come to you. You’ll be able to lay down suppressive fire and pick off any enemy foolish enough to attempt a mad dash across the battlefield. Just watch out for snipers. With an abundance of vehicles about, it’s also a good idea to bring the wrench gadget along for the battle. Keeping your team’s tanks alive and well will be key to victory.

Scout

If Galicia’s open fields are a dream come true for the support class, then this map is straight up heaven for scouts. Find a small ridge or simply go prone in a field away from the fighting and pick off enemies from afar as they sprint around the map. If you want to be a little closer to the action, the various destroyed windmills that dot the landscape make for excellent sniping positions, as their windows give you sight of the enemy while also providing cover.
