Real life getting you down? Wish you could find a way to keep a smile on your face at all times so you don’t have to worry about the low points of everyday life? In Compulsion Games’ trippy dystopian adventure We Happy Few, that’s the order of the day! Simply keep taking your Joy pills, and everything will be right as rain!
Except it’s totally not. As you make your way through the fictional town of Wellington Wells, an alternative vision of England, you’ll soon realize that the cheerful denial of everyone around you, chemically induced by the strange happy pills that keep everyone complacent and full of, well, “joy,” is a front. There are some particularly terrible happenings afoot, and you’ll have to play as several different characters to get to the bottom of it all.
As you make your way through the outside of the “populated” areas of the city, where those who have stopped taking their Joy have been sent (deemed “Downers”), you’ll have to do what you can to keep yourself alive. This includes crafting weapons, items, and other helpful tools to help you figure out a way to unravel the secrets Wellington Wells is hiding. It won’t be easy, but that’s what makes We Happy Few so compelling.
