It’s time to get back in the saddle as Arthur Morgan and company ride out of the sunset for the long awaited PC release of Rockstar Games’ epic Red Dead Redemption 2. On October 26, 2018 the grand tale of good, bad, and, of course, redemption, rocked the console gaming scene to the tune of resounding critical acclaim, but a port to the PC wasn’t quite ready to go. Now a little over a year later the game is polished up, all the dials are turned up to 11, and the party is ready to start again.
While already a beautiful game with technical prowess and fantastic style, Rockstar is more than prepared to let the higher potential power of the PC really bring the environments to the next level. Some of the tweaks to achieve this are a higher draw distance, enhanced global lighting, and ambient occlusion to create a more vivid and immersive landscape. Also, as you would expect the texture resolutions are higher for objects rendered in the world like grass and trees, and the shadows and reflections are deeper and more robust. All of this supported on a variety of resolutions, 4k or more, multiple monitors, widescreen – all the setups one could hope for.
The graphics are prettier, the scenery more vibrant, but the even better news is that the release comes with a few enhancements to the already rich world. Getting around the countryside comes with even more style as new horses have been added, several types previously only available in Online, as well as a hearty handful of new ones including some wild ones to tame. There are new guns available, new trinkets to enhance gameplay, and for an extra helping of gravy on top the story mode also comes with 3 new bounty hunter missions, two new hideouts, and two new treasure maps. The saying “more is more” is alive and well for the PC release.
If you are sure you won’t be able to get enough of the world of Red Dead, then this is no time to forget about the highly popular Red Dead Online. The PC release will have access to all of the updates, improvements, and ongoing additions to the online mode the same as the console versions.
Red Dead Redemption 2 releases today for PC on the Rockstar Games Launcher, Epic Games Store, and various digital retailers. The game will be a launch title on Google Stadia as well, and Steam release is expected in December.
