Indie publisher Versus Evil has announced that Habitat, the space-themed strategy game from 4gency that lets you build the ultimate orbital junkyard fort, is now available for purchase through Steam’s Early Access program. Through Early Access, players will have the chance to experience the game as it evolves, and potentially shape how this space survival experience will evolve as it pushes towards its final release. For more detailed information on Habitat, check out the Official Habitat Wiki here on Gamepedia.

In the far-distant future of Habitat, humanity is forced to abandon Earth and look towards the stars to find its future. You take on the role of ‘Commander,’ who is thrust into the unfortuitous position of securing the survival of the entire human race by utilizing the very limited resources around you to build orbital bases. Sifting through centuries of space debris, outdated technology, and other debris that’s now trapped in Earth’s orbit, you will build a new space-faring utopia that will grow and evolve over time. Your resources are limited, and every choice you make can mean the difference between continued survival or certain death.

Habitat offers two modes of play: Sandbox and Campaign. In Sandbox mode, you slap together your utopian outpost from the procedurally-generated debris field that surrounds you. You’ll dispatch engineer teams to raid other space junkyards to find even more debris to grow and upgrade your Habitat, ranging from satellites and relics of the Apollo program, to school buses, cruise ships, and the Empire State Building!

In the game’s narrative-driven campaign, you’ll find yourself in the crosshairs of an ancient and mysterious enemy. You will use the debris floating around you to construct rocket launchers, lasers, and other powerful (and occasionally impractical) weapons to fight them off. As you progress, you’ll learn more about this foe, and perhaps even discover the truth behind Earth’s demise.

Habitat is available for Early Access purchase on PC, Mac, and Linux, but that’s not the only way you can become involved with the game. You can always contribute to the Habitat Wiki to provide more information on all the types of debris, weapons, missions, and enemies in the game. Not sure how to get started?
