It’s the near-future, and you find yourself on the frontlines of a new kind of war – not one fought by nations, but by multinational corporations bent on destabilizing the world governments and installing themselves as leaders. This is the world of Warface, the Free-to-Play shooter from Crytek. We’ve partnered with Crytek to support the Official Warface Wiki, giving you a one-stop shop to find all the information you need to give you the upper hand in the heat of battle.

But let’s say that you’re new to Warface and want to know what sets it apart from the bevy of other Free-to-Play shooters out there. Well, keep reading and we’ll break it down for you!

Warface sets itself apart by bringing true AAA-level production values to the Free-to-Play space by utilizing CryEngine 3 (the same game engine used for ArcheAge and State of Decay) to lift the visuals above the competition while still allowing for smooth running on low and mid-range machines. But the visuals are only the beginning. Warface gives players a wide variety of ways to play the game, allowing you to suit up as one of four different classes and experience a slew of different multiplayer game modes; team up with up to four of your friends to complete objective-based cooperative missions, or jump into the polished competitive multiplayer that Crytek is so known for.

There are seven distinct Co-Op modes in Warface:

  • Apache, where your team must destroy an enemy helicopter.
  • Arena, where you fend off waves of incoming enemy soldiers.
  • Convoy, where your team protects allied vehicles by destroying enemy fortifications along their path.
  • Initiation, which has you clearing out a small village filled with enemy troops.
  • Mech, where you and your teammates are looking for a “secret weapon” to use in combat. We think you can figure out what it is you’re looking for.
  • Safari has you climbing onto a troop transport and clearing a path for your team’s extraction.
  • Tower Raid commands you and your team to fight your way through a high rise skyscraper to locate and eliminate a high-ranking enemy combatant.

In addition to the above cooperative modes, there are six distinct multiplayer modes at your disposal:

  • Team Deathmatch pits two teams of players against each other to fight for ultimate supremacy.
  • Free for All, which is like Team Deathmatch, but without the “team” part. Every man and/or woman for themselves.
  • Capture, a Capture The Flag-style of game where teams protect their own warhead while trying to capture the other.
  • Destruction, where teams battle for control over the central area of the map until three air strikes are called on the enemy base.
  • Plant the Bomb, where one team tries to plant the bomb in the other team’s base. Once the bomb is detonated, or once time runs out, the teams switch roles.
  • Storm sees one team trying to capture three points in successive order, while the other team defends said points. At the end of the round, the teams switch sides.

Taking on one of four different roles (Rifleman, Sniper, Medic, Engineer), players will level up their accounts by gaining experience points, as well as earning points to spend on new weapons, new uniforms, and additional equipment to bolster role-specific features.

Warface is currently available, for free, on both PC and Xbox 360.
