Gauntlet, the classic dungeon crawling hack-and-slash franchise that’s let gamers battle their way through endless waves of ghosts, goblins, demons, sorcerers, thieves, and much more, is poised to make its return with the PC exclusive title – Gauntlet! Developed by Arrowhead Game Studios and published by WB Games, Gauntlet looks to return the series to its arcade roots and deliver a 21st century nostalgia trip that blends the best elements of the franchise while also updating it for a new audience.

We at Gamepedia are proud to announce that we’ve partnered with Arrowhead Game Studios and WB Games to launch the Official Gauntlet Wiki! With this all-in-one information portal, you will be able to look up all the classes, loadouts, and achievements you could ever need.

“That sounds really cool,” I hear you say. “But I’ve never played a Gauntlet game. What is it?”

That’s a good question, and if you keep reading past the break you’ll find out.

The Gauntlet franchise has always prided itself on its balance of dungeon exploration, combat, and teamwork. You (and, presumably, your teammates) would fight your way through a dungeon level teeming with all manners of ghouls and ghosts. As you sliced, shot, or… erm, magic’d(?) your way through the enemies, you’d find rare treasures and keys, which you needed to progress to the next level. It’s a very straightforward prospect, and when you’re with the right group of friends the madness that ensues is some of the most satisfying fun you’ll have in a game. The new Gauntlet keeps that classic feel while expanding on the different ways each class plays.

Each class now has its own series of abilities that can be expanded and evolved over time. Classes can also equip different items, allowing you to put on a new suit of armor or carry a more powerful weapon. Warriors can now clear groups of enemies with powerful spinning attacks, while Wizards have three different spells that have three different effects. The Valkyrie can block enemy attacks and knock foes back with her shield, and the Archer can pick off enemies from afar with charged arrow shots, volleys of fire, and explosive-tipped arrows.

Gauntlet, you will be pleased to hear, features both couch and online multiplayer – allowing you to hack and slash your way through countless dungeons with your friends from all over the globe. You can check the game out on Steam, where you can pre-order it prior to its September 23rd launch. Be sure to also check out the official Gauntlet wiki to learn more about the game.
