There are stories from long ago of brave warriors, wizards, elves and Valkyries uniting to seek fabled treasures and rid the world of evil… at twenty-five cents a pop. As the seminal dungeon crawler steamrolls towards its 30th anniversary, WB Games and Arrowhead Game Studios have brought Gauntlet back with updated visuals and new features, while keeping the classic gameplay intact.

With the updated Gauntlet, you and up to three of your friends (or random people from the Internet, however you wanna roll) will team together to explore some of gaming’s most perilous dungeons. What makes them so rife with danger? The ghosts, and ghouls, and goblins, and other monsters and demons that await you. But they’ll stand no chance for your mighty party if you work as a team and utilize your each of your strengths.

Oh, and having some really awesome gear will help, too.

One of the aspects of the new Gauntlet which strays away from the series tradition is the inclusion of different loadouts. These new loadouts include strong armor, powerful new weapons, and other items which enhance abilities and make you stronger in battle. You can acquire these at any time, so long as you have enough gold to pay for them, and the only way to earn gold is by collecting treasure. The only way to collect treasure is to explore dungeons. The only way to explore dungeons is to slay demons. It would seem so cyclical, if only it were so simple.

These demons will put up a fight, and you will be tested like never before. Are you prepared?

Gauntlet is available on Steam right now, meaning that you can start crawling your way through dungeons, hacking and slashing your way to power and riches as soon as you finish reading this. You can pick up the game for $19.99, or you can split the cost with up to three others and pay $15 per copy with the Gauntlet 4-pack, which goes for $60.

You can learn more about the updated Gauntlet by stopping by the Official Gauntlet Wiki, which has breakdowns of all the weapons, armor, relics, classes, and monsters in the game. You can also swing by our Forums to find others who are playing the game – who knows, maybe you’ll be able to find likeminded warriors and forge a party to conquer what lies ahead?
