Slightly Mad Studios has developed quite the reputation for delivering top-tier AAA-quality racing titles, starting with Need for Speed: Shift back in 2009. Now they’re about to set a new standard for the MMO racing genre, partnering with my.com to develop World of Speed. We’re excited to announce the World of Speed Wiki, and give you guys a rundown of what you can expect from this upcoming racer.

World of Speed is an open-world racing game where thousands of drivers can explore the same persistent game world. So far, the game world consists of three key areas – recreations of London, Monaco, and Moscow. There are other areas that you will have the chance to explore as well, like California’s Pacific Coast Highway, as well as air fields and the like. As the game progresses through its beta and eventually as it evolves once it’s available to all, you can expect to see the game world grow by leaps and bounds.

Another ever-growing aspect of World of Speed is the garage. As of this article, there are eighteen cars from world-renowned automakers like Ford, Mazda, BMW, and Mercedes. As players compete in races, they’ll work their way towards unlocking more vehicles to use, and as the game grows so will that garage. You’ll also have a fully-featured garage in the game to let you tweak different aspects of your vehicle and customize everything from the paint job and hubcaps, to more detailed features that impact the car’s handling, acceleration, etc.

The game features a number of different race modes which can be played as a solo driver, or as a member of a Club – a group of friends whom can engage in team-based challenges together. Clubs can also challenge each other to these different team-based events, or they can cut right to the chase and square off against each other in a straight-up street race. What you ultimately choose to do is up to you, and your teammates.

World of Speed is currently in Closed Beta, though new players are being welcomed daily. You can sign up for yourself by visiting the game’s website and signing up. If you’re still curious about the tracks, individual cars, and social features of this upcoming free-to-play racer, drive past our World of Speed Wiki to find everything you could ever need.
