AWLR

Azeroth Wars: Legacy Reborn (AWLR) is a custom map for Warcraft III where players control a wide variety of races and characters from the Warcraft Universe. The map, downloadable from Epic War, gives players the opportunity to play as they wish, free from campaign limitations. For more information on the game, visit the AWLR wiki on Gamepedia.

Gameplay in AWLR is comparable to melee games in Warcraft III, but there’s one stark difference: gold is not collected. Instead, players receive income based upon how many Control Points are own. There are over one-hundred control points in the game, and they vary from giving 10g/min to 50g/min. Another major change in AWLR is the absence of upkeep. This means your income is no longer penalized by how many units you have. Instead, units cost 1 food with a food cap of 300. AWLR has a vast selection of factions available to players, from the noble High Elves of Quel’Thalas to the merciless Burning Legion. Each of the factions has three masteries available for research. These masteries vary in cost and bonuses, and you may only choose to research one per game.

The game has passed through many development teams in the last eight years. The first version of the game, originally called Azeroth Wars Strategy, was developed in 2006 by Augur. Throughout the years, the game has had a myriad of authors and developers, but now rests in the hands of Rhemar, Talinn, and Augur. Authors claim that AWLR represents its own unique game genre: Role Playing Grand Strategy. AWLR has an active discussion board that includes changelogs, suggestions, and other gameplay information.
