‘Ant-Man’ Director Mocks Those Outraged by Female-Only ‘Wonder Woman’ Screenings

To celebrate the first female-led superhero movie, and the second superhero film to actually be directed by a woman, Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas announced it would host female-only Wonder Woman screenings.

But, for some reason, this has made the vocal types on the internet swell with rage. Men claimed the cinema was being sexist because it wasn’t going to hold an all-male showing of the film … which obviously defeats the entire idea.

“We’ve never done showings where you had to be a man to get in, but we *did* show the Entourage movie a few years ago,” came the witty reply from Alamo Drafhouse Cinemas.

But brilliant, Ant-Man director Peyton Reed – who is also directing its upcoming sequel Ant-Man and The Wasp – has also mocked the online outrage at the female-only Wonder Woman screenings.

Wonder Woman is coming to cinemas on June 1 in the UK and June 2 in the US. It stars Gal Gadot as the eponymous heroine, with Chris Pine playing love interest Steve Trevor.

The film shows how Diana, Princess of the Amazons, becomes Wonder Woman and how she tries to bring peace to humankind, while simultaneously discovering her full powers and true destiny.

It’s part of the extended DC cinematic universe and sees Gadot reprise her role of Wonder Woman from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. She was definitely one of the best things about that movie, so it’s good to see her taking up Diana’s whip again.

Those that have seen it are claiming Wonder Woman is the “best DCEU film to date”, so we certainly have high hopes for the film.
