The first full trailer for Avengers: Infinity War just dropped, and it shows just how much havoc Thanos will wreak in the Marvel Universe.

Thanos’ threat is so great that it’ll take the combined efforts of Earth’s mightiest heroes, the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther and the nation of Wakanda, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, and many others to try to take him down.

The latest trailer shows a battle on several fronts: Thanos opens interdimensional gates in New York (where Iron Man, Doctor Strange, and Spider-Man are), and sends troops to invade Wakanda (where Black Panther has allied himself with Captain America).

His goal? To secure all six Infinity Stones, powerful gems that grant their wielder control over the universe. Currently, they’re scattered in many locations, but Thanos is a man on a mission.

The trailer also gives us a good look at the Black Order, or Children of Thanos — the evil doer’s minions — as well as an enticing glimpse of the interactions between characters. Thankfully, it seems the trademark humour of the Marvel Cinematic Universe won’t be lost amid the epic battles. Here, Peter Quill challenges Tony Stark’s authority with sass, while Peter Parker appears as the same excitable newbie we’ve seen in his previous MCU outings in an exchange with Doctor Strange.

Beware Thanos

According to Marvel head Kevin Feige, Thanos is the central character of the film.

Thanos in Infinity War is – in a movie that has a lot of characters, you could almost go so far as to say he is the main character, and that’s a bit of a departure from what we’ve done before, but that was appropriate for a movie called Infinity War.

Of course, as in any war, there are casualties. There are rumors that the iconic characters that launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe a decade ago — Iron Man, Captain America — may make the ultimate sacrifice. Previously released footage has also shown the Mind Stone forcibly removed from Vision’s forehead; it’s unclear what will happen to him without it.

Buzz around the massive crossover has been so strong that the studio pushed the U.S. release up a week, to April 27 (to match the worldwide release). Tickets also went on sale this morning.
