What’s old is new again in the latest Beauty and the Beast trailer. The upcoming live-action adaptation of the 1991 animated Disney film, starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens, looks A LOT like the original. Don’t believe us? Check out these side-by-side comparisons to see just how similar they are:
Belle walks through the village square
We see Belle (Watson) wearing her signature blue dress in both versions. She’s carrying a book with her, and looks to be teaching a girl how to read, instead of a pair of curious sheep.
Meet Gaston…
Gaston (Luke Evans), the film’s antagonist and Belle’s suitor, is seen admiring himself in a mirror in both the 1991 and 2017 versions; just as clueless and egotistical as ever.
Maurice is captured by Beast
Kevin Kline plays Belle’s inventor father, Maurice. After getting lost in the woods, Maurice heads towards Beast’s castle for shelter. Beast finds Maurice and throws him into the castle dungeon for trespassing.
Belle finds her father and meets Beast
After Belle realizes her father has been imprisoned, she locates him at Beast’s castle and offers to exchange her freedom for his.

Belle meets the castle staff, who have all been transformed into household objects by the same curse that affects Beast.

Belle is rescued by Beast in the woods
Belle runs away from the castle, and is immediately attacked by feral wolves. She doesn’t realize that Beast has followed her, and as he fights off the wolves, he becomes badly injured. Instead of going home, Belle takes him back to the castle to tend to his wounds.
Beast gives Belle a gift
After she nurses him back to health, Beast tries to think of a way to repay Belle. He does so by granting her full access to his impressive library.
Gaston and the village want to kill the Beast
When he hears that a monstrous beast has captured Belle, Gaston and the other villagers form a mob and storm Beast’s castle.
