FANDOM caught up with the cast and crew of Cloak & Dagger over the weekend at WonderCon. Stars Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph were on hand to preview the series, which will debut on Freeform this June.

Both Aubrey and Olivia were excited to show fans the first episode, as well as tease what’s ahead for their characters. “We come from a very authentic and organic place when we’re telling this story,” Holt said. “It can be witty and cheeky at times, but this is a story we want to keep grounded.”

Holt stars as Tandy Bowen, a former dancer who gets her powers when she’s involved in an accident with Aubrey Joseph’s character Tyrone Johnson. Together they become the duo Cloak and Dagger. “Every moment of it is surreal,” Joseph said. “We have such a beautiful show and I’m proud of it.”

Gina Prince-Bythewood, who directed the first episode of the series, is excited that the show is intentionally putting forth a diverse cast and a diverse story: “I have two boys and they want to turn on a TV and see a superhero that looks like them. That’s one of the main reasons I took [the show] because it’s so rare to see that.”

The cast also shared which show or film they would love to crossover with, as well as how the city of New Orleans becomes an important setting in the series. Check out the video above for more about why this show will appeal to Disney Channel fans, Spider-Man fans, and fans who are looking for a more realistic, diverse superhero show.

Cloak & Dagger hits Freeform on Wednesday, June 7.
