‘Drag Race’: Cringeworthy Snatch Game Episode Will Give Us Nightmares for Weeks

Spoiler alert: This post contains spoilers from the Snatch Game episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 10. Proceed with caution.

You know how RuPaul used to end each Snatch Game by saying, “And the winner is … who cares?!” Well, it’s never been truer than on the Season 10 iteration of everyone’s favorite Drag Race challenge. (Or at least it used to be our favorite.)

After the tragic performances in the recent All Stars 3 Snatch Game from a couple of months back, we dared to suggest that they put the challenge to rest for good. And yet, we couldn’t help getting tricked into being excited for the annual impersonation challenge yet again. And, sadly, it just may have been the worst one yet.

Before we get into the horror, let’s not take away from Aquaria’s win. She absolutely nailed it as Melania Trump. Her execution was spot-on thanks to thought-out moments like writing “Help me!” inside the Tiffany’s box and signing Michelle Obama’s name on her placard. But if the queen who, even by her own admission, is the least likely to make us laugh is the one winning Snatch Game, it really tells you the caliber of talent that slithered onto the stage.

Things started off with a bang thanks to an entertaining reading challenge and the presence of Bianca Del Rio, but everything from then on was so uncomfortable it was difficult to watch.

From the moment that Asia O’Hara decided to swap out Whitney Houston (a brilliant idea) in favor of Beyonce (an absolutely horrific idea in every single way), I was clutching my metaphorical pearls. Beyonce is a lot of things, but funny is not one of them. And we’ve already proven that on the Snatch Game twice before.

But perhaps that’s why Asia decided to do something a little different with her Queen Bey impression. Unfortunately, that consisted of turning the pop star into an angry unlikeable woman.

Asia had hoped to rely on The Vixen during the game, as she decided to portray Bey’s daughter, Blue Ivy. But what Asia forgot to factor into that plan was the fact that Vixen was going to be just as bad as she was. Their banter back and forth, especially when Monique’s unfortunate Maxine Waters joined in, would have had Latrice Royale rolling in her padding.

But the cringe-worthy moments didn’t stop there, friends. In fact, we were just getting started.

After the mermaid-themed runway, RuPaul asked the queens in the top and bottom who should be the next to go home and why. And while most of them rightfully pointed out that The Vixen was the weakest link, Vixen naturally named Eureka as the worst on the stage. (Clearly she decided not to take into account the fact that the Elephant Queen won the past two challenges and was on the top this week, too.)

Vixen’s reasoning was simple — she thinks Eureka’s personality is too big and that it doesn’t allow any of the other queens to shine. Now aside from her clearly blaming someone else for her own shortcomings, here’s the real problem with that statement: The Vixen is demanding that Eureka bring her personality down a few notches, but when she has been asked to do the same, she refuses. She declares she can only be at an 11 at all times and is disgusted that anyone would ask her to do anything different.

This double standard is the latest in a long line of bad looks that The Vixen has delivered on the runway this season, and at least it seemed like it was finally going to be her time to sashay away.

But, alas, we were served yet another cringe-worthy moment during the lip sync between Vixen and Monique when the latter simply didn’t know the words. We’re going to brush past the fact that this is a gay man who doesn’t know the words to a Carly Rae Jepsen bop and instead focus on the fact that it’s RuPaul’s Drag Race. And she’s a drag queen. And knowing your words surely must be rule number one. Did she not see Valentina and Maskgate last season?

And, because of that giant fumble, Monique was forced to sashay away while The Vixen remains to make us all miserable for another day.

We’ll ask Monique what happened in our interview with her tomorrow, but for now, we need to watch something happy so we don’t have night terrors about this awkward episode.
