Cordwainer Bird

Now that geek culture has finally developed from a special niche into the mainstream, you’d think a metropolitan city like Singapore would have a host of events and conventions to accommodate the die-hard fans and lovers of all things pop-culture. Well, you thought right, clever clogs. Singapore has all you need to celebrate your fandom, so read on for Fandom’s guide to the best Singapore events 2019 has to offer.

Universal Studios Singapore’s Halloween Horror Nights 9

The scariest event returns for its ninth edition. Halloween Horror Nights 9 will feature heart-stopping moments across five haunted houses, two scare zones and two thriller shows. Under the dark light is the Curse of the Naga, a new haunted house designed by the directors of Shutter and 4bia. Another haunted house is The Chalet Hauntings and it will host a menagerie of Southeast Asian ghosts under one roof… you’ll either faint from phasmophobia or agoraphobia! Either way, you’ll reel from this immersive scare experience like none other.

Halloween Horror Nights 9 will run from 27 September till 31 October 2019 (select nights) and is held at Universal Studios Singapore in Resorts World Sentosa Singapore.

Singapore Comic Con

Singapore Comic Con – previously known as Singapore Toy, Game & Comic Convention – continues to be the hotbed for all things pop-cultured. Dressed as your favourite comic book characters, dabble in the esports arena, make friends with like-minded visitors, cash in on some sweet collectables… this is the place where the geek will inherit the earth, or at least, in a convention hall at Marina Bay Sands for two days.

Singapore Comic Con will run from 7-8 December (select nights) and is held at Halls A, B, C at Marina Bay Sands.

C3 Anime Festival Asia Singapore

Considered as one of the most prestigious Japanese pop culture events in South East Asia, the C3 Anime Festival Asia will bring the best and exclusive Japanese pop culture to our island. With a wide array of interests and activities, from special anime screenings to live concerts, there is something for everyone. すごいねー!

C3 Anime Festival Asia Singapore will run from 29th November to 1st December 2019 (select nights) and will be held at the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Now you’re equipped with the knowledge, all you have to do is plan your holiday to the garden city. Fair warning, these events are big and often very busy – which is great if you want to immerse yourself in geek culture and be surrounded by like-minded pop-culture fans, but does mean it’s going to be an exhausting day? Not to worry, because if you need an additional day to recover, Singapore’s got what you need to reenergize, too (i.e. kopi o).
