HBO has announced new details for Game of Thrones Season 7 ahead of this Friday’s anticipated Hall H panel at Comic-Con. The series will officially resume filming later this summer on the 7-episode seventh season, with production based in Northern Ireland, with additional portions filmed in Spain and Iceland.

Game of Thrones Season 7 hits in summer 2017 — later than usual, so that use of winter shooting locations can be maximized, explains HBO programming head Casey Bloys: “Now that winter has arrived on Game of Thrones, executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss felt that the storylines of the next season would be better served by starting production a little later than usual, when the weather is changing. Instead of the show’s traditional spring debut, we’re moving the debut to summer to accommodate the shooting schedule.”

HBO recently dropped a short list of season 7 directors including Mark Mylod, Jeremy Podeswa, Matt Shakman and Alan Taylor. Notably absent from the list are GOT veteran helmers Miguel Sapochnik (“Battle of the Bastards,” “The Winds of Winter”), David Nutter (“The Red Wedding”).

Locations for next season’s shoot in Spain will include Sevilla, Caceres, Almodovar del Rio, Santiponce, Zumaia, and Bermeo.

The news comes ahead of a massively anticipated Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday which will feature cast panelists (in alphabetical order) John Bradley as Samwell Tarly, Liam Cunningham as Davos Seaworth, Nathalie Emmanuel as Missandei, Conleth Hill as Varys, Faye Marsay as The Waif, Hannah Murray as Gilly, Kristian Nairn as Hodor, Iwan Rheon as Ramsay Bolton, Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark, and Isaac Hempstead Wright as Bran Stark.

Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss will also appear on the panel alongside director Michael Sapochnik.  It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob McElhenney is serving as moderator.

The panel and Q&A session will also be followed by an autograph signing at 4:15 p.m.
