When the fate of the world is at stake, who ya’ gonna call? Aziraphale and Crowley. Okay, so maybe they don’t have the catchiest of names, but this devilishly dysfunctional duo are the only thing standing between our world and Armageddon. Don’t call them heroes just yet, they’re only risking it all because they quite like the comfy lives they’ve made for themselves on Earth. So who are Aziraphale and Crowley? The main characters in Good Omens, now on Amazon Prime Video.

AZIRAPHALE

Aziraphale is an angel living on Earth who originally guarded one of the gates of Eden thousands of years ago. But that job became pretty obsolete after Crowley tempted Eve an apple before she and Adam were cast out of Eden. Now Aziraphale spends his days running a bookshop in London that doubles as his private collection.

Aziraphale has grown pretty fond of humanity and our quirks, so he doesn’t want to see the entire planet wiped out by the Apocalypse. The rest of the angels are all really excited about getting to fight Hell, but Aziraphale would rather sit down with a glass of wine and a good book.

CROWLEY

The other half of this unlikely partnership is Crowley. Fun fact, his name used to be ‘Crawly’ but decided to change it because he thought it was too “squirming at your feet-ish” even though he used to be a snake. In present day he lives a very comfortable life in a posh London flat, spending his time running into Aziraphale and driving a vintage 1926 Bentley. Instead of tempting humans with bribes and deceit, Crowley prefers to push the entire human race closer to hell with mildly annoying occurrences, like phone outages. So next time social media goes down, blame him.

Expect to see David Tennant wearing lots of sunglasses in the show, even when he doesn’t need them! He’s also got yellow snake eyes hiding behind the lens, so just prepare yourself for creepy Crowley. He prefers to have a little more fun than Aziraphale, but if the Apocalypse happens – he won’t be able to enjoy the life he’s crafted for himself.

The unlikely set of friends will have to find the real Antichrist after a baby mix-up eleven years ago before he ignites the end of the world. Let’s just hope they can put their differences aside…
