Invincible, as any fan of the series will tell you, is a breath of fresh air in the world of superhero stories. Just when you thought there wasn’t a new superhero tale left to tell, Invincible swoops in and offers up relatable stories told with people who just happen to have superpowers. The story follows teenager Mark Grayson — aka Invincible — as he learns to grapple with his new powers. But, Grayson’s Dad, Nolan, is also Omni-Man, the most powerful superhero on the planet. So not only is Mark still getting ahold of his powers as a 17-year-old — when life is already confusing enough — but he inherently has the pressure of living up to his father’s impact, and Season 1, now available on Prime Video, is all about that.
Now, Season 2 is upon us and Mark’s one year older and much, much wiser. But he’s dealing with the fallout and betrayal of the person closest to him — his own father. While Omni-Man’s betrayal and eventual abandonment of Earth impacted many people, Mark is now without the father who lied to him, but now there’s a deeper worry permeating his psyche — what if he grows up to become his father?
But, before you check out Invincible Season 2 on Prime Video, here’s what we’d like to see happen in the world of Mark Grayson.
The Multiverse of Mark
In the explosive trailer for Season 2, we’re introduced to Angstrom Levy, who according to himself, can access and travel through an infinite amount of different dimensions. The implications of this could lead to a near-endless amount of disasters, but with it, a near-endless amount of Marks. As Angstrom wields his ability to traverse dimensions as he sees fit, what’s to say versions of Mark — evil ones at that — we’re yet to meet will follow him through? We already know that Invincible worries he’ll become his own worst enemy, but what if that physically becomes the case too? It’s part of the excitement of this story, and it’ll have us guessing until the very end.
Mark & Atom Eve 4EVA
Now, throughout Season 1, Mark’s blossoming relationship with Amber is part of the light that shines through the troubles of his unique adolescent issues and the eventual betrayal by his father. Amber is headstrong, powerful, and part of you thinks that she might be too good for him. But, still, their romance is so much fun to watch.
Yet, Invincible and Atom Eve’s rapport is only growing stronger. As we can see in the trailer, Mark’s mother Debbie might have always struggled with being a non-super spouse to Omni-Man. Eve and Mark clearly have a bond, and if they’re both supers, then that one-sided pressure might not form in the way it could for Mark and Amber. Let’s dodge that bullet entirely and explore the romantic potential for Invincible and Atom Eve in Season 2.
But Let’s Not Count Amber Out
As we all know, Amber holds Mark down the way he needs to be. She is the non-super sidekick who ends up becoming perhaps the most important person in Invincible’s life, and that includes Omni-Man. While we know that this season will be all about different dimensions, and that’s going to take up a lot of Mark’s time, Amber’s story deserves to flourish and we deserve to learn more about her outside of her relationship with Invincible.
The Origins of Angstrom Levy
Angstrom Levy seems set on using everything in his dimensional-traversing wheelhouse to bring Invincible down, and he’s serious about it. But what we don’t know is exactly how he got these powers in the first place. Having free access to the infinite amount of different dimensions definitely isn’t something you’d think someone could be born with, so how did Angstrom get so powerful? We know he’s a scientist — did he create and imbue himself with this ability? Or was it the result of some horrific accident?
The Looming Return of Nolan
Nolan’s return doesn’t exactly seem like it’d be a welcome one. You can’t have a major part in a conspiracy to literally destroy the planet and expect that planet to just be OK with it. However, Nolan’s betrayal is inevitably going to be a driving force in Mark’s character arc and evolution, not only as a superhero but also as a human. Everything’s going to come back to Nolan, and that might result in Omni-Man coming back to Earth to try and talk things over with not only Mark, but Debbie. Maybe he’ll also take advantage of Angstrom’s dimensional portals as well, or we’ll meet a different Nolan entirely.
