Square Enix released a live action trailer for the upcoming Deus Ex: Mankind Divided today. The trailer — which is really more of a short film — showcases various political tensions central to the game’s story, including the government’s plan to segregate augmented and non-augmented individuals, the shortage of neuropozyne, and certain countries mandating the relocation of augmented citizens.

The trailer ratchets the tension tight, concluding dramatically with the government incarcerating a woman with an augmented arm, her husband’s desperate pleas falling on deaf ears. The trailer concludes with the phrase “The Mechanical Apartheid.” We’re guessing this is the dividing of mankind referred to in the game’s title.

As an added bonus, fans can scan a triangular icon using the Deus Ex Universe app to receive bonus content.

Professionally produced and directed, the fast-paced trailer even features snippets of the “found footage” viral videos Square Enix recently released, which we wrote about earlier this week:

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided launches August 23.
