Logan, the third movie about Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, has X-Men fans abuzz with excitement. Of course, everyone’s talking about the film because this is probably the last time we’ll see Hugh Jackman playing the iconic clawed hero. And the movie’s also received a lot of attention for the anticipated debut of Laura, a very important character from the X-Men comics who has a special connection to Logan. But there’s one thing that hasn’t been talked about a lot: the bad guys. Who exactly are the villains in Logan?

Donald Pierce is the main villain in Logan.

Donald Pierce is one of the villains in Logan.

Donald Pierce, played by Boyd Holbrook (Narcos), is the leader of a cybernetically-enhanced group who hunts and kills mutants. They’re the muscle for the Transigen, a nefarious initiative with a goal of wiping out every single mutant on Earth.

That’s why Pierce is out to kidnap Laura (codename: X-23). Transigen wants to experiment on her. Naturally, Logan and Professor X aren’t down with that. But Pierce, being ex-military and you know, a cyborg, proves to be a formidable foe.

When you see the movie, you’ll probably appreciate that Pierce isn’t a cookie cutter bad guy — you may hate him, but he’s actually pretty fun to watch.

In the comics, Pierce’s group is called the Reavers. In Logan, they’re a nameless gang of villains.

Pierce’s gang in Logan aren’t technically called Reavers, but it’s obvious the comic book Reavers are their inspiration. They may look a little different from what you’ve seen in the comics, but the point is that they all have some sort of cybernetic enhancements. There some important differences, however…

One of Wolverine’s main villains, Lady Deathstrike, is a prominent member of the Reavers in the comics. You might remember her from X2: X-Men United. But Lady Deathstrike isn’t in Logan.

Other members of the comic book gang, like Bonebreak, Skullbuster, and Pretty Boy, aren’t in the movie either.

In the comics, the Reavers are a private military organization created and funded by the Hellfire Club. There’s no mention of that in Logan.

Zander Rice is another one of the villains in Logan. He’s the surgical head of Transigen.

Richard E. Grant’s character, Zander Rice, is another of the villains in Logan. He’s the creator of X-23 and the “surgical leader” of Transigen. In other words, he’s the one who wants to get his hands on Laura.

In the run-up to Logan’s release, there was a lot of speculation about whether or not Rice actually works for Essex Corporation — they were referenced at the end of X-Men: Apocalypse. That not the case. In the movie, it’s all about Transigen.

Are there more villains in Logan? We won’t spoil that for you.

There’s been a lot of talk about Caliban, Stephen Merchant’s character. He’s not really a villain here — when you see the movie you’ll see.

Apart from that, there just might be a special villainous surprise in store, but we won’t dare get into that here until after the movie’s been seen by fans.
