The cast and creators of Lore previewed the creepy new TV series, coming exclusively to Amazon Prime Video on Friday, October 13th, at New York Comic Con today. With the help of moderator Kevin Smith, creator Aaron Mahnke, and stars Robert Patrick (Terminator 2), Kristin Bauer (True Blood), and Holland Roden (Teen Wolf) talked about making the alternative format horror series that tells 6 scary standalone stories which are all true.

Producers Gale Anne Hurd (The Walking Dead) and BP Jenkins also joined the panel, bringing with them a preview of one of the show’s most chilling episodes, “Unboxed,” which tells the story of Robert the Doll, the real-life inspiration for Chucky. And, well… just watch…

The series is an adaptation of Mahnke’s award-winning podcast, which producers wanted to bring to life in a way that remained true to the source material. Each episode blends docudrama-style reenactment segments with animation, along with Mahnke’s narration.

Bauer Van Straten, who played Pam on True Blood, says, “I’m obsessed with non-fiction. I thought this was a fascinating way to tell true stories.”

“I love that the line is becoming blurred between fiction and non-fiction. To me, it was the best of both worlds,” added Roden, who played fan-favorite Lydia on Teen Wolf.

Robert Patrick stars as Reverend Eliakim Phelps in the “Passing Notes” episode, about a haunted house that’s more than a ghost story. “It’s fun being part of telling a story that’s gonna be told in a lot of different ways,” Patrick says.

Mahnke told fans that the alternative format is a carefully considered choice. “From the beginning, the goal was to build a house that Lore podcast listeners would feel comfortable in,” he said.

Other scary topics tackled in Season 1 of Lore include werewolves, primitive medicine, botched lobotomies, and the story of an evil fairy called a changeling, all of which are based on real-life events.

Lore comes exclusively to Amazon Prime Video on October, Friday the 13th.
