With 2016’s San Diego Comic-Con rapidly approaching, Marvel has released two new pieces of concept art that should further whet the appetites of fans.

The first piece of art comes to us from James Gunn, the director of Guardians of the Galaxy and its upcoming sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Check it out in its full glory below, and click to see the full-size version!

The new art by Andy Park gives us our first look at Mantis, the newest addition to the Guardians’ lineup. Mantis is played by Pom Klementieff, a relative newcomer to Hollywood films. In Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Jonathan Schwartz described Mantis as someone who’s “never really experienced social interaction. Everything she learns about dealing with people, she learns from the Guardians of the Galaxy, which is a very weird group to learn your social intricacies from.” Indeed.

The Guardians may be even weirder now that their dynamic has shifted. The artwork implies that Yondu, who still has some beef with Peter Quill, and Nebula, last seen blown up by the Guardians, may be allies in this second volume of their story. That’d be a great way to shake things up with our heroes, who are at their best when they’re not getting along. Schwartz also teased a younger, “more rambunctious” Groot than we saw in the first film. “He doesn’t have the wisdom and experience of [the previous Groot].”

Courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, the next piece of art comes from Marvel’s Doctor Strange. While it’s beautiful, it’s not exactly a shocking reveal.

I love the way Ryan Meinerding rendered the cape and the magic here. After seeing the film’s trailer, I have faith that the movie will bring that beauty to the screen. This art will be available as a poster at San Diego Comic-Con, where Fan Contributors will bring you breaking news and lovely video content!

Doctor Strange opens on November 4. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will arrive in theaters on May 5, 2017.
