Director Patti Jenkins and stars Gal Gadot and Chris Pine wowed Hall H at Comic-Con today with the first footage from Wonder Woman 1984.
The sequence — which won’t be released online — features Diana Prince in the food court of a shopping mall. In full Wonder Woman costume, she rescues a young girl from a pair of goons, grabbing their guns, crushing them, and then lassoing the thugs. It was followed by a shot of Wonder Woman running down a street with super speed in broad daylight.
Patti Jenkins then explained that the film is set in the 1980s because it was humanity “at our best and worst.” She also revealed that the work of Richard Donner and Steven Spielberg are a big influence on the movie.
Gal Gadot added, “It’s not a sequel. It’s its own movie … The bar is very, very high but our aspirations are even higher.”
However, no one was willing to explain how Chris Pine’s very much dead Steve Trevor is in the movie. But Jenkins did state, “It’s something I’m super excited for everybody to see. It’s a very important part of our movie.”
