The Red Skull is one of the great Marvel villains. He has shown up only once so far in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and fans have been aching to see Captain America’s greatest nemesis return to the big screen. Considering that his “demise” was a little ambiguous, is there a way for him to return? Well, someone might have just revealed that he’s coming back.

Samuel L. Jackson was recently interviewed about what’s going on with Black Panther and if Nick Fury is going to show up. Jackson’s response?

“No! They’re not letting my black ass go through Wakanda. I was trying. I asked. I was like, ‘What do you mean?’… You didn’t see me in Civil War, I’m still out there trying to figure out what the Skull is doing…”

The Return of the Red Skull?

Was this a slip up by Jackson? Did he accidentally let loose that the Red Skull is still in play for the Marvel Cinematic Universe? A few years ago, actor Hugo Weaving didn’t sound very pleased with his time as the character. He went so far as to say he had no desire to return as the Red Skull. But, his tune has changed a little bit. He’s talked about enjoying the outrageousness of the character. Could he be hinting at some reconciliation with the role?

Since Marvel has finally gotten very cosmic with their universe, it’s not out of the realm of reason to see the Red Skull return in some way. He was zapped away by the Cosmic Cube in Captain America: The First Avenger. Who’s to say he hasn’t crossed paths with the likes of Thanos out there in space?

Even if it’s not Weaving who returns to the role, the Red Skull needs to come back. He’s too of a villain to leave sitting on the shelf. Hopefully, Jackson’s comment is indicative of a Red Skull reveal down the road. We’d love to see the uber-Nazi bad guy making trouble for Captain America and the Avengers.
