Ridley Scott recently told Entertainment Weekly that he’d originally conceived and pitched an alternate ending to his 1979 masterpiece Alien. It’s hard to imagine the film concluding any differently to the way that classic coda plays out – or, indeed, any scarier. But Scott described an altogether darker denouement which saw Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley getting her head ripped off by the Xenomorph. Fandom’s Kim and Chris argue why it was the right decision to veto Scott’s vision and leave Ellen Ripley alive to battle against the aliens three more times in the franchise.
