Rogue One is a huge shift in direction for the Star Wars franchise. We spoke to Alan Tudyk (K-2SO), Hal Hickel and John Knoll about some of their favorite moments from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

“And there’s a fresh one if you mouth off again.”

For Alan Tudyk, there was no greater moment than K-2SO slapping Cassian in the face. It was a moment of improvisation that Tudyk was so happy to hear made the final cut. He even revealed that you can see actor Diego Luna crack up in the shot. If you look very closely, he covers his face in order to hide a smile.

On the subject of K-2SO’s hands, animation supervisor Hal Hickel said that he loved working with a droid that had more humanlike appendages. Though C-3PO has hands, they are not articulated. Hickel liked having to work with a droid who could express himself in a variety of ways simply by using his hands.

For executive producer and visual effects supervisor John Knoll, he was most pleased with the environment work in the film. Sequences like Admiral Raddus’s bridge and the fighting on Scarif utilized a lot of fully fabricated locations. Knoll was happy to see such integration come across smoothly on screen.
