Do I really need to intro a new Star Wars trailer? In case you haven’t kept up to date with Rogue One, here’s a quick breakdown: it’s the story of the group of bounty hunters who were hired to steal the plans for the original Death Star. That’s all you need to know, so let’s get to watchin’ that trailer!

WOW! I mean, WOW!

Director Gareth Edwards (Monsters, Godzilla) has brought his methodical eye to the Star Wars universe and it looks gorgeous. There are shots in here that look like they will go down in franchise history. The Rebel soldiers running headfirst into an AT-AT‘s firing line? Incredible.

Not to mention that this is going to be a smorgasbord for fans when it comes to spotting some notable figures and places. Mon Mothma shows up! And who is Ben Mendelsohn’s Imperial figure in white? There was also a quick shot of a hooded figure in black. Is it possible this film will sneak in an appearance by none other than Darth Vader himself?

And the new characters look equally awesome! Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso looks like an absolute badass (“This is a rebellion, isn’t it? I rebel.”) as well as Donnie Yen going kung fu on a stormtrooper! I can’t wait to see all the other characters who will certainly become fan favorites in the Star Wars universe.

Rogue One will be the first Star Wars film that doesn’t focus on the story of the Skywalkers, and it also won’t focus on the Jedi or the Force. Edwards himself said that the project enticed him because Star Wars has always been a very black and white moral tale, whereas Rogue One will be much more gray in that respect. That’s definitely foreshadowed with Forest Whitaker’s ominous speech at the end asking Jyn what she will become.

I didn’t think it was possible, but I may be more excited for Rogue One than I was The Force Awakens. It looks that good. We’ll all find out if that’s the case when Rogue One opens on December 16.
