Netflix has truly stepped up its game when it comes to Netflix Original movies. They now have a great selection spanning across all genres. They have also brought in many heavy hitters when it comes to acting talent and noteworthy names. Netflix transformed their movie-making to compete with Hollywood adding actors like Leonardo DiCaprio, Halle Berry, and Woody Harrelson to their films.

When it comes to picking what you want to watch on Saturday night Netflix is a strong competitor. Whether these Netflix movies slipped through the cracks or were your favorites this year, here are some movies you may enjoy and some games you might like to play after watching them. And don’t worry, no spoilers here, so you can still check out the movies if you haven’t done so yet.

The Movie: Red Notice

With the star trio, Ryan Reynolds, Dwayne Johnson, and even Wonder Woman herself, Gal Gadot, this movie packs a punch when it comes to talent. This international crime and heist movie with Interpol investigating along the way is almost like an Indiana Jones movie meets The Ocean’s series. This movie takes you on a crazy international journey. Yes, it was sometimes cheesy and has mixed reviews, but it is still fun to watch.

The Game: The Uncharted Series

If you loved the globetrotting, treasure hunting, and major action scenes of the movie, you might love playing the Uncharted series. This long-beloved series packs it all with intense action and fun problem-solving to find treasure around the world. Follow Nathan Drake, the lead character, through a well-developed storyline to learn his interesting backstory.  And it’s the perfect time to play these games before the Uncharted film is released on February 18th next year.

The Movie: Blood Red Skies

If you like international horror movies, this British-German film is packed with thrills and actions. Set in the present day, Nadja, played by Peri Baumeister, is a vampire who aims to protect her son when their plane to New York is hijacked by terrorists. This movie gives you the action and surprises any thriller should. Watch this film to find out if this vampire momma can save the day. And, who doesn’t like a good vampire movie to add to the lore of it all?

The Game: Vampyr

While set during a completely different time period far in the past, London 1918, Vampyr is one of the best vampire games out there. The main character, Dr. Jonathan Reid, battles his internal vampiric desires while working as a doctor to help combat the Spanish flu and figure out who turned him. This semi-open-world game has unique characters and gameplay options throughout. You will not be disappointed with this unique and well-designed vampire game.

The Movie: Army of the Dead

Army of the Dead is another excellent action-packed heist movie but this time with zombies. In Las Vegas, a pandemic spread, turning humans into zombies and forcing the government to close off the city. This movie has unique zombie types you don’t generally see in films. It’s not just quick or slow zombies. They range from shamblers, alphas, and other variants that leave diverse and interesting threats to the remaining humans who want to venture within the quarantined walls of the city.

The Game: Days Gone

Now, if you want a unique zombie game where you have to fight off and manipulate hordes of zombies while navigating different terrain, then Days Gone is the game for you. The game also shares the zombification of animals, like the movie mentioned above does, with zombie werewolves and crows for you to fight off. Days Gone has a unique open world environment full of interesting missions. This game is not only an action packed adventure but has an intriguing storyline which will leave you wanting more.

The Movie: The Harder They Fall

Outlaw gangs in an intense rivalry with themes of love, revenge, and friendship make for a great movie. The story is centered on Nat Love trying to find the man, Rufus Buck, who killed his parents when he was a child. In this movie we see these rival gangs going head-to-head with epic standoffs and shootouts. Twists and turns with historical roots and relevance like the iconic stagecoach Mary, Cherokee Bill, as well as the names mentioned earlier make this another classic western in the making. The movie also has amazing stars like Idris Elba, Regina King, Jonathan Majors, and LaKeith Stanfield.

The Game: Red Dead Series

The Red Dead series also tells the story of a gang making its way and has several revenge plotlines throughout. In the first game, Red Harlow, a bounty hunter, is on a journey to avenge his parent’s death. The most recent game, Red Dead Redemption 2, has an expansive, beautiful open world. There is so much improvement in game play from the scenery, character development, and missions. You could spend many hours playing side missions alone. With Arthur Morgan at the helm, you’ll experience an immersive wild west experience that will have you returning to replay the game time and time again.

‘Tis The Season

So, maybe you’re in the holiday spirit and are watching Netflix’s new movies like A Boy Called Christmas, Love Hard, and Single All the Way and want to play a game a bit more festive. While not specifically a holiday game, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales offers many scenes with the holiday season in mind. One overtly Christmas scene is when Miles returns home, and his mom cooks a Traditional Puerto Rican Christmas feast. In the game, you light the Christmas tree, put on Christmas music, and experience a true Christmas feast with family and friends.

The magical snow-covered New York City hosting events with yummy holiday and Latin delights is a great holiday adventure. The game gives countless moments with the holiday season in mind. And the game itself holds themes of family and community, only strengthening the argument that this should be a game played around the holidays.
