Ezra, Kanan, Hera and the rest of the Ghost crew continue their adventure on Saturday, September 24 at 8:30 ET. Lucasfilm and Disney aired a new TV teaser trailer on Monday. The trailer shows much of the footage we saw in the longer Rebels Season 3 trailer, but even these short clips were enough to get this fan’s heart racing with excitement.

Fan favorite Grand Admiral Thrawn promises to be a menacing adversary for the Rebels. Fans familiar with Thrawn from the Expanded Universe know he uses visual art to understand the culture and habits of his adversaries. In the Celebration trailer, he’s seen carefully studying a very familiar piece of graffiti. Unwittingly, Sabine likely left a perilous trail of breadcrumbs that will give Thrawn the edge he needs to gain the upper hand on the fledgling Rebellion.

Rebels Season 3 Will Bring A New Point of View on the Force

A character who is sure to make a big impact on the series (and not just because of his size) is the mysterious Bendu, voiced by Tom Baker of Doctor Who fame. During the Celebration press conference, Dave Filoni mentioned that the Bendu is intended to represent an aspect of the Force not related to the Jedi or Sith. Most images we have seen of the Bendu so far also include Kanan. Whatever his perspective on the Force, it’s likely the massive, ancient Bendu will be the catalyst that drives Kanan to confront Ezra about his growing closeness to Darth Maul and his use of the Sith Holocron to supplement his training.

The ancient Bendu looms large over Kanan

In the Clone Wars, Filoni and his production team delved deep into Force lore outside of the Jedi and Sith traditions. The episodes set on Mortis gave us a glimpse of powerful Force users who embodied aspects of the Dark Side and the Light Side of the Force and the balance between them. The Witches of Dathomir use a dark magic related to the Dark Side of the Force and have a culture very different from that of the Sith. We also encountered, in the final season, the Dagoyan Masters of Bardotta, who had their own unique Force tradition and mistrusted the Jedi. This September 24, Rebels Season 3 will give us more perspectives on the mystical energy field that binds the galaxy together.
