Oscars 2018 was dominated by a lot of smaller-scale films but the blockbusters were represented as well. From comic book films like Logan to Disney giants like Coco, plenty of box office smashes showed up to the biggest night in the movie business.

But, which one took home the most gold?

And the Winner Is…

Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk took home three awards — Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Film Editing — and its $525+ million in box office returns certainly qualifies it for blockbuster status. It was also nominated for Best Production Design, Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, Best Director, and Best Picture. If it really is an honor just to be nominated, Dunkirk exemplifies that perspective.

Other blockbuster wins for the night include two wins for Disney/Pixar’s Coco — Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song — as well as some well-deserved wins for Blade Runner 2049, which took home a coveted prize for Best Visual Effects and a long time coming Best Cinematography award for Roger Deakins. And one of the big wins of the night came when Jordan Peele won Best Original Screenplay for Get Out. That film’s box office and cultural status are forces to be reckoned with.

Fans might be disappointed to see movies like The Last JediLoganBaby DriverWar for the Planet of the Apes, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 not take home any Oscars, but they are still blockbuster successes that we’ll be enjoying for years to come.
