More Like Wrestle-WOMAN-ia…

TRIPLE THREAT FOR RAW WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP: Ronda Rousey (c) vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Becky Lynch

PREVIEW: For the first time in WWE history, a women’s match will be the main event at WrestleMania! How did we get here? It all began with an errant Nia Jax punch. Becky Lynch was suddenly the hottest Superstar in WWE. She wasn’t an obvious choice, but Lynch’s authenticity forced people to love her… and “The Man” was born. Lynch’s ascent was briefly postponed when Lynch vs. Rousey was nixed from the Survivor Series due to the Lass-kicker’s injuries. Since then, Becky’s risen to greater heights, and she’s propelled herself to this title opportunity by winning the Royal Rumble, not to mention overcoming attempts by the McMahon family to keep her from achieving her goal of once again becoming a champion. And let’s not forget… this match involves the “Baddest Woman on the Planet” Ronda Rousey. Hardly a slouch, Rousey is the current Raw Women’s Champion. She’s a legitimate threat as a part of any match. And we haven’t even mentioned Charlotte Flair, who was entered into this match by Vince McMahon, yet… she’s a seven-time Champion in WWE. This match is set up to be something special with three tremendous competitors, but only one will walk away victorious.

PREDICTION: We’re well aware of how much Charlotte Flair has already accomplished in WWE and the legacy she’s building. She’s sure to be a Hall of Famer when all is said and done, making her a threat to capture any championship for which she challenges. We also know just what a force Ronda Rousey is in WWE, and she’s only been at this for a year. She’s exceeded expectations and is really starting to come into her own. But there is no way… NO POSSIBLE WAY… to go against Becky Lynch at WrestleMania. WrestleMania is made for moments and Becky Lynch overcoming the odds to raise the Raw Women’s Championship above her head in victory checks all the boxes. WWE Superstars don’t come bigger than Becky Lynch. Sometimes the obvious choice is the best choice and “The Man” is hands-down the best.

…Or Could It Be Kofi-Mania?

WWE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: “The New” Daniel Bryan (c) vs. Kofi Kingston

PREVIEW: Kofi Kingston had to run the gauntlet in order to land this opportunity… no, literally. In order to compete for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania, the veteran has had to go above and beyond to prove to Mr. McMahon that he deserves this spot. He survived over an hour in a Gauntlet Match leading up to the Elimination Chamber. Then he nearly took home the WWE Championship inside the Chamber, lasting to the final two before being bested by the reigning champion Daniel Bryan. He believed that had done enough to warrant a one-on-one shot at the title, but Mr. McMahon pulled him out of the WWE Fastlane main event, replacing him with Kevin Owens. Then he had to successfully emerge from another Gauntlet Match to earn a title match, one in which he defeated five other Superstars, before Bryan was added to the list last minute and sent Kingston home with a defeat. Finally, Kingston was given one final shot, but it would be on his brothers in the New Day to get it done for him… as they were pushed into a Tag Team Gauntlet Match with Kingston’s WrestleMania match on the line. Big E and Xavier Woods gave everything they possibly had for their friend and teammate and, when the smoke cleared, Kofi Kingston was going to WrestleMania to face Daniel Bryan… a Daniel Bryan who ironically looks at Kingston as “a B+ player,” a phrase that was applied to him not too long ago when The Authority was trying to hold him out of WrestleMania 30’s main event. Kingston has earned the respect of the locker room for his 11 years in WWE, but is respect enough to capture the WWE Championship at WrestleMania? Is respect enough to defeat “The Planet’s Champion,” who has found a new gear since returning to the ring full-time, motivated to showcase himself after several years lost time?

PREDICTION: We’ve been Daniel Bryan fans for a long time, and are so thrilled to see him back on the WrestleMania stage after his time away from the ring. He is absolutely killing it right now with the WWE Championship in his possession, and there are very few on the planet capable of beating him in a one-on-one match. However, we think Kofi Kingston may rise to that level at WrestleMania. Kingston has always been very good for a very long time in WWE, but great has seemed to be just out of his reach. With all the momentum that’s been building for him to get this chance, we don’t think failure is an option for him. We’re picking Kofi Kingston to achieve the dream here, even if it means he’s better than Daniel Bryan for one night. The stars feel aligned for this one to happen.

Seth Rollins Aims to Slay The Beast

UNIVERSAL CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Seth Rollins

PREVIEW: Over the past year, with numerous incredible victories, Seth Rollins has put himself in the conversation. Today, he’s one of the best wrestlers on the planet. His status solidified in a win at the Royal Rumble, giving him the choice to challenge for whichever championship he wanted. That’s when Brock Lesnar was thrust into his sights. Rollins wants to take down “The Beast” at WrestleMania, and it wouldn’t be the first time he’s seized the opportunity to take a championship from Lesnar at WrestleMania. Back at WrestleMania 31, Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase during the main event match between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns, effectively turning it into a Triple Threat affair. That night, Rollins walked away with the gold, dethroning Lesnar as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. However, he did it by pinning Reigns under Triple Threat rules. So, while Rollins may have technically defeated Lesnar on that particular night, he still has yet to pin his shoulders to the mat in a one-on-one contest. He’ll get that chance at WrestleMania. Lesnar’s first reign as Universal Champion lasted over 500 days. He’s hoping to top that with his second go-’round, seeing Rollins as yet another challenger who can’t quite get the job done against his ferocious appetite for pain, destruction, and suplexes. If Rollins really wants to be the absolute best wrestler on the planet, a singles victory over Brock Lesnar would cement that.

PREDICTION: The heart wants what the heart wants, and it’s easy to ride with Seth Rollins as the pick to take the Universal Championship away from Brock Lesnar, returning that title to full-time glory on Monday Night Raw. But I have a hard time believing we’ll see two happy endings at WrestleMania. Seth Rollins is sure to put up a hell of a fight. He’ll have Brock Lesnar on the ropes. Rollins will take him to the brink, coming within a hair of being the new Universal Champion at WrestleMania. But Brock Lesnar will reign supreme, continuing as your Universal Champion when all is said and done. Sorry, Seth… we don’t think it’s in the cards for you this time.

The Animal Returns on His Own Terms

NO HOLDS BARRED: Triple H vs. Batista

PREVIEW: Once upon a time, Batista and Triple H were running roughshod over all WWE as members of Evolution. A heated rivalry and a frosty relationship followed, only to be dug up again in the not-too-distant past at SmackDown 1000 when Batista made it a point to call out Triple H’s unfavorable win-loss record against him. Fast-forward to a few weeks back when Batista beat up a 70-year-old Ric Flair to grab Triple H’s attention. And here we are — facing a match with no rules and no restrictions at WrestleMania, where Batista wants to end his career with one final match on his own terms… and potentially end Triple H’s in-ring career at the same time. These two have ripped each other to shreds before, and I don’t suppose they’ll let up at any point inside MetLife Stadium. It’s simply a matter of who can channel the most of what they were in their prime that will show who still has it in 2019.

PREDICTION: Triple H is notorious for getting one over on others who may have benefited more from having a victorious WrestleMania moment (e.g. Sting), and we could see where some might lean towards him notching a W here. But this is Batista, baby! He may have beaten up an elderly “Nature Boy,” but come on… You expect us to go against Drax the Destroyer? Sorry, not going to happen. We’re going with “The Animal” simply because nothing goes over his head. His reflexes are excellent, and he would catch it.

The Miz Seeks His McMahon Revenge

Shane McMahon vs. The Miz

PREVIEW: So much for “the World’s Greatest Tag Team.” The unlikely pairing of Shane McMahon and The Miz somehow managed to capture the SmackDown Tag Team Titles not too long ago and formed what seemed like an interesting bond over the tough relationships they have had with their respective fathers over the years… But that all shook out as too good to be true when, after losing the titles to the Usos and failing to regain them at WWE Fastlane, The Miz bore the brunt of the defeat, being viciously attacked by his soon-to-be former partner in front of his hometown of Cleveland. However, that was just the beginning of it, as The Miz was choked out in front of his dad who was forced to sit ringside witnessing the whole thing and Shane even had the gall to put his hands on Papa Miz before he was finished. Now the Miz has a grudge to settle, and the stage is set for WrestleMania – for honor, for respect, and for vengeance.

PREDICTION: We’re not used to this topsy-turvy world where The Miz is cheered by the fans, and are still figuring out to find our bearings here… but the Miz had better not have the same struggle. Shane McMahon is known to absolutely bring it on WWE’s big shows, ready to lend another clip to his already dense highlight reel of high-risk moments. Let’s not forget this is the man who dove off the top of Hell in a Cell towards a prone Undertaker three short years ago, only to come crashing through the commentator’s table below when the Deadman managed to escape the predicament. Is The Miz willing to lay it all out on the line in order to find retribution against Shane-O-Mac? Our guess is no, but why work harder when you can work smarter? And The Miz has proven himself a wily veteran over the years who figures out how to win when everyone says he can’t. We like The Miz to score the victory here and get one back over on Shane. We’d hate to see his newfound fan support curbed by a sudden inability to avoid beatings.

Bálor Club Is Coming For The All Mighty

INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: Bobby Lashley (c) vs. Finn Bálor

PREVIEW: Bobby Lashley has been an absolute thorn in the side of Finn Bálor as far as the Intercontinental Championship is concerned. After beating Lashley and Lio Rush in a handicap match at WWE Fastlane to win the IC Title, his reign was over in the blink of an eye with Lashley taking the title back with a victory the next night on Monday Night Raw. Since then, Bálor has been doing whatever it takes to have another shot at Lashley and bring the Intercontinental Championship back into the ranks of Bálor Club. A win in yet another handicap match – this time against Lashley and Jinder Mahal – did the trick, and Bálor is now set up to face Lashley once more with the title hanging in the balance. This is Lashley’s first WrestleMania appearance in 12 years, and a successful defense of his title is squarely on his mind. However, Bálor may have a surprise to summon in order to overcome Lashley once and for all, especially as Rush lurks on the outside ready to help The All Mighty.

PREDICTION: Both of these Superstars need this Intercontinental Championship at this point in time. Bálor has seemingly floated around WWE after he was shelved with an injury a few years ago, but his chase of the Intercontinental Championship seems to have given him a goal to strive for and his career a bit of direction. Similar thoughts apply to Lashley, who has done the most damage since pairing up with Rush… damage that has led him to two Intercontinental Championship reigns recently. This one feels like a toss-up, and normally we’d side with Lashley, given the advantage Rush brings to him at ringside. But we’ve got a hunch we could see the re-emergence of the Demon at WrestleMania for Bálor. Given the grand showcase of WrestleMania, why not pull out all the stops you can when challenging for such a prestigious championship? If the Demon decides to show up, we’re taking Bálor. Otherwise, we’re going with Lashley.

Who Truly Holds The Keys To The SmackDown House?

A.J. Styles vs. Randy Orton

PREVIEW: For the last few years, SmackDown Live has effectively been known as “The House That A.J. Styles Built.” The blue brand often felt underappreciated and with Styles as its standard-bearer for a lengthy period of time, the Phenomenal One felt as if he had raised the game of the show overall. Leave it to Randy Orton to take offense, with the Apex Predator claiming he deserves far more credit than Styles for what SmackDown has become. After all, he’s been around in WWE for far longer, notching a number of championships to his name while Styles was making a name for himself elsewhere. Of course, those worldly travels have made Styles the tenacious competitor he is now, and, while an RKO outta nowhere can quickly bring a match to its end, Orton would be better served not to underestimate a talent who’s been proving his doubters wrong since the very beginning. Either way, we’re going to find out who really holds the keys to the SmackDown house in this interesting match-up.

PREDICTION: You can visualize it already. A.J. Styles comes springboarding off the top rope, with Randy Orton in his sights for a Phenomenal Forearm… only for Orton to catch Styles with an RKO outta nowhere, and that’s another WrestleMania win for the Viper. It’s too perfect… almost too perfect, which is why we don’t see it going down that way. Oh, don’t worry… that moment will come about, and it’ll look very similar to how we’ve drawn it up for you. But Styles is too smart to fall victim to that trap and will figure out a way to turn this precarious situation into one where he has Orton in his clutches to deliver a Styles Clash… and it’ll be A.J. Styles who lays another brick of the foundation of his SmackDown house.

Rey Mysterio Seeks To End Samoa Joe’s U.S. Title Run

UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: Samoa Joe (c) vs. Rey Mysterio

PREVIEW: Samoa Joe has been an absolute force to be reckoned with since making his debut on the main roster in early 2017, but it wasn’t until this March when he captured the United States Title for his first taste of gold. Rey Mysterio has his sights set on making that title reign short-lived. The future Hall of Famer scored a pin over Joe in a tag match on SmackDown Live and is now looking to make history repeat itself, this time with the U.S. Championship on the line. That title has eluded Mysterio throughout his career, so here’s the perfect opportunity for the famed luchador to further add to his career accomplishments. However, he’ll have to avoid Joe’s dreaded Coquina Clutch, which more than a few Superstars have succumbed to in the past, to do so.

PREDICTION: Rey Mysterio’s career is much closer to the end than the beginning, but to underestimate him at this point would be a grave mistake. Mysterio is perfectly capable of bringing it on any given night and that makes him an instant contender to capture the U.S. Title in this spot. But his opponent is Samoa Joe, a man who couldn’t care less about who Rey Mysterio is or what he’s done. Joe is as cold, calculating and ruthless as they come, and he’ll stop at nothing to keep a championship in his possession. That means a choke-out of Mysterio at Joe’s hands, with Joe retaining the U.S. Championship.

The SmackDown Tag Titles Are On The Line

SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match: The Usos (c) vs. Ricochet & Aleister Black vs. The Bar vs. Shinsuke Nakamura & Rusev

wwe-wrestlemania-35-tag-team

PREVIEW: After the Usos forfeited their part of the Gauntlet Match against The New Day a few short weeks ago, granting an assist to Kofi Kingston’s quest to headline WrestleMania, they find themselves in a tough predicament at the Showcase of the Immortals. Their SmackDown Tag Team Championship is up for grabs, as they face three other teams in a Fatal 4-Way match. The Bar are five-time champions, and you know you’re always going to have a tough task in front of you anytime Cesaro and Sheamus step into the ring. Ricochet and Aleister Black have come on like gangbusters as a team since being called up to the main roster, and, between both of their unique styles and their championship history in NXT, are not to be taken lightly. The same can be said for Rusev and Nakamura, who have hung with the best of them the world over. The Usos have a tall mountain in front of them, in escaping with their titles intact, but they aren’t a probable future Hall of Fame pairing for nothing.

PREDICTION: Aleister Black and Ricochet are the chic pick at the moment, and it’s hard to think The Bar can’t ascend to the titles yet again… but I’m sticking with the Usos here to retain. They are as great as they’ve ever been, and always bring their A-game when the titles are the line. Plus, after regaining the championship from Shane McMahon and The Miz a short while back, they seem refocused and ready to show the world why they are the premiere tag team in WWE.

Farewell to an Olympic Hero

Kurt Angle vs. Baron Corbin

PREVIEW: When Kurt Angle recently announced that his time in the squared circle was coming to a close and that he’d be wrestling his final match at WrestleMania, fan speculation ran wild as to who Angle might lock up with before riding off into the sunset. Would it be John Cena, who started his WWE career with a match against Angle – bringing this whole thing full circle? Might it be one last ride with the Undertaker, this time at WrestleMania? Nope… instead, it’s Baron Corbin. It makes sense for Angle to want to even the score with Corbin, who orchestrated his exit as Raw General Manager early in the year while going out a winner one last time.

PREDICTION: I wouldn’t want to be in MetLife Stadium if Baron Corbin manages to deprive the WWE Universe of a Kurt Angle victory as he decides to hang up his boots. That’s why this is all Kurt Angle. Oh, it’s true. It’s damn true. This can end no other way.

Curt Hawkins Looks To Finally Win One With Raw Tag Titles Hanging In Balance

Raw Tag Team Championship Match: The Revival (c) vs. Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins

PREVIEW: It appeared as if The Revival might not have a title defense after sneaking by Ricochet and Aleister Black this week. A well-deserved vacation during WrestleMania weekend appeared to be in the cards… that is until the team of Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins came asking for a title shot. What it is they did to deserve one is beyond me, but, after consideration, The Revival have accepted the challenge of the former Edgeheads and are putting the Raw Tag Team Championships on the line at WrestleMania. Curt Hawkins hasn’t registered a victory in 269 matches, so will the losing streak continue? Or does Zack Ryder, who found his own WrestleMania dream in capturing the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 32, have enough juice left to grant Hawkins his own WrestleMania moment?

PREDICTION: This seems tailor-made for Hawkins to have an awesome moment after all he’s been through, returning to glory with his former partner on the Grandest Stage of Them All, and so your heart has to be leading you in the direction of new tag team champs, right? Wrong! The Revival live for making you suffer through disappointment and shattering your hopes and dreams, both literally and figuratively. Dash and Dawson are an excellent tag team, and their toughness and tremendous ring IQ are typically too much for even experienced teams to overcome. Ryder and Hawkins will put up a valiant fight, but, in the end, The Revival show why they are “Top Guys.”

Training Partners Collide for the Cruiserweight Championship

WWE CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: Buddy Murphy (c) vs. Tony Nese

PREVIEW: Who knew Buddy Murphy could be this great? After his tag team career disintegrated in NXT and he seemed directionless in his career, he has been killing it since becoming a member of the 205 Live roster. Murphy has earned widespread respect as the premiere cruiserweight in WWE. After winning the Cruiserweight Title last year, he has turned away the best of the best who have sought to dethrone him, registering impressive win after impressive win along the way, including against former champions Akira Tozawa and Cedric Alexander. Now, after a Cruiserweight Championship Tournament to find a new #1 contender, it’ll be Tony Nese – Murphy’s friend and training partner – who takes his shot at Murphy. Nese looks as good as he ever has, but is that good enough to knock off Murphy?

PREDICTION: You can’t pick against Buddy Murphy right now. We mean, you could, but you’d be awfully foolish to do so at the moment after how stellar Murphy has been. Nese certainly has some insight into Murphy’s techniques and strategic thinking, given their closeness, but even that won’t be enough to unseat the champ. Murphy’s game is on a whole ‘nother level, and Nese isn’t going to be able to match that at WrestleMania. Murphy stays your Cruiserweight Champion coming out of WrestleMania.

The Women’s Tag Titles Are On The Line, Fatal 4-Way-Style

WOMEN’S TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: Bayley & Sasha Banks (c) vs. Natalya & Beth Phoenix vs. Nia Jax & Tamina vs. The IIconics

PREVIEW: It was no easy task in going through five other teams within the structure of the Elimination Chamber, but Bayley and Sasha Banks persevered in order to make history, becoming the first-ever WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. With that responsibility on their shoulders, the Boss ‘N’ Hug Connection have vowed as fighting champions to take on all comers who want a shot at their prize. It’s quite possible they may have bitten off more than they can chew, as they’ll have three challengers gunning for them at WrestleMania under Fatal 4-Way rules. In this scenario, neither Bayley nor Sasha Banks would have to be defeated for the champs to lose. That’s certainly a dangerous line to walk, but there is no shortage of confidence between Banks and Bayley that would have them doubting their chances for triumph here.

PREDICTION: Beth Phoenix sure isn’t coming out of retirement to waste this prime opportunity to add another women’s title to her trophy case, and with Natalya and Nia Jax, former champions in their own right, also in the mix, this could be anyone’s match to take. However, the Boss ‘N’ Hug Connection is in a groove with Bayley and Banks both healthy for the first time in a while that we found it extremely difficult and highly unlikely that any team they’re facing in this match-up has what it takes to knock them off their tag team perch. We’re riding with Boss ‘N’ Hug.

The Big Dog Meets The Scottish Terminator

Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre

PREVIEW: Things are bound to get heated at WrestleMania when Roman Reigns steps into the squared circle to square off with Drew McIntyre. After all, it is McIntyre who is running around taking credit for breaking up The Shield after defeating both Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose. He then delivered a pair of Claymore Kicks to Reigns in a sneak attack on Raw before challenging Reigns to this WrestleMania match, with the goal of going 3-for-3 against The Shield. Reigns took the match against McIntyre’s warnings and is looking to avenge his Shield brothers and send a message to the entire locker room that, after his recent battle with leukemia, the Big Dog is back and better than ever.

PREDICTION: It’s been all Roman Reigns for quite some time across the WWE landscape. The Big Dog has been the primary focus of Monday Night Raw for the last several years, and, while many have tried, nearly all have failed in knocking Reigns down a rung on the proverbial WWE ladder. But Drew McIntyre feels different. He matches up with Reigns physically, and he has the killer instinct that a number of WWE Superstars have lacked as they attempted to take it to Reigns. McIntyre does not back down and, since returning to WWE with a renewed focus, he has been on the rise towards the championship goals atop the company that have long evaded him. Reigns is the easy pick, based on past history, but we’re going with McIntyre here. Reigns’ heart may be in this, but we don’t know that he can handle the unmatched physicality McIntyre brings to the table.

Who’ll Be The Last Man Standing to Claim This Year’s Andre Trophy?

Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal: Featuring Braun Strowman, Michael Che, Colin Jost, Andrade, Apollo Crews, Titus O’Neil, Tyler Breeze, Jinder Mahal, No Way Jose, Bobby Roode, Chad Gable, Kalisto, Gran Metalik, Lince Dorado, Bo Dallas, Curtis Axel, Heath Slater, Rhyno, Viktor, Konnor, Ali, Shelton Benjamin, Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson, Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy, Otis, Tucker and EC3

PREVIEW: This year marks the sixth year of the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, and unusually we don’t know much about the field declaring their spots in the match. We’ve got Braun Strowman stating his entry… and that’s about it. Only recently did we also learn that Saturday Night Live’s Colin Jost and Michael Che would also be competing after some goading from the Monster Among Men… but still… that’s it. Those are the only individuals we know will be stepping between the ropes for this contest. Even with more mystery surrounding this match than we’ve seen before, someone is looking to make a WrestleMania moment for themselves in this spot… and you shouldn’t be surprised when it unfolds as such.

PREDICTION: How does one even go about trying to make a pick in a match with very little information made public about it and only three entrants on the record as participating? Very carefully, very randomly and very creatively. That’s why we’re going with Strowman here, but with a little bit of assistance. We get the feeling Jost and Che might have something nefarious lurking for the big man, who should be everyone’s primary concern in a battle royal anyway. But we sense the return of Strowman’s former tag team partner Nicholas to even the odds and help Braun eliminate the pesky SNL duo on the way to victory.

Who’ll Be The Last Woman Standing to Win The WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal?

WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal: Featuring Asuka, Carmella, Naomi, Lana, Mandy Rose, Sonya Deville, Nikki Cross, Dana Brooke, Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan, Sarah Logan, Mickie James and Zelina Vega

wwe-wrestlemania-35-womens-battle-royal

PREVIEW: In last year’s inaugural Women’s WrestleMania Battle Royal, it was Naomi who walked away with the initial honor, prompting New Orleans to feel the glow with her win. But does she have it in her to repeat in this last woman standing affair? A number of other participants will have their say, including the recently dethroned SmackDown Women’s Champion Asuka, who is looking to take out her frustrations on all the other entrants in the match. But with Superstars from NXT also participating, could we see someone surprise MetLife Stadium that we collectively never saw coming?

PREDICTION: Asuka is easy money here as the most respected and feared competitor in the match, although there is a part of me that believes Naomi is quite capable of the repeat. But I’m going out on a limb and picking Bianca Belair – the EST of NXT – to upset the field. She stole the show last year with her 450 Splash during the battle royal, and, after winning the NXT Women’s Championship on Saturday night at NXT TakeOver (fingers crossed), I believe she’s primed for a huge weekend that culminates in outlasted every other Superstar in the battle royal.
