GuardianCon begins today, but it has already had a huge impact on the gaming world by raising over $3.8 million for charity! GuardianCon was started by several large streamers with an original focus on Destiny, but has since grown to be a massive gathering of gamers!
GuardianCon started this year with a large pre-con charity stream which raised money for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. St. Jude’s mission is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment; therefore, defeating childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
During the charity stream, staff members from Bungie participated and reached certain stretch goals that caused Community Manager Dylan to get a tattoo and cosplay as bread. The largest amount raised during a single portion of the stream was over $920 thousand, when streamer Ben Lupo closed out the charity stream. The total from the entire stream came in at over $3.8 million!
GuardianCon runs from July 5th through the 6th, and takes place at the Rosen Shingle Creek Convention hotel located in Orlando, Florida! Attendees will have access to a plethora of upcoming games, such as a demo for Borderlands 3!
