Hades launches onto Steam Early Access today! Developed and published by Supergiant Games (the team responsible for Bastion, Transistor, and Pyre), Hades is a rogue-like action RPG dungeon crawler where players must fight their way out of the Underworld. Hades released on the Epic Games Store as an Early Access title one year ago, but new players may now enjoy the game on Steam with a full year of development already invested.
Playing as Zagreus, the prince of the Underworld, players wield the powers of mythic weapons of Olympus to break free from the clutches of Hades, the god of the dead. Each escape attempt will reveal more of the story while also making Zagreus slightly more powerful. Zagreus is not alone in his attempts to escape the Underworld, and will be visited by many other Olympians who bestow powerful boons on his weapons which enhance the various attacks available. There are thousands of viable character builds to discover as players mix-and-match a combination of weapons and god boons, leading to a game with immense replayablity!
Over the last year in Early Access, Hades has received eight major updates, including the latest Welcome to Hell update that released last week. These updates have introduced new Olympians such as Dionysus and Hermes, adding significant end-game progression, and making the game more accessible to new players. Overall, each update has provided significant balance changes for the various weapons and boons while also adding polish to the gameplay, systems, and game assets. Supergiant has proven that they can consistently deliver fantastic updates at a reasonable pace.
