Trade, explore, craft, and battle in Oberon, an upcoming MMORPG from Monk James. Unlike other MMOs, Oberon does not include experience points, levels, or monotonous grinding. The game is currently in pre-alpha and is planned to be a free-to-play title. Monk James has partnered with Gamepedia to create the Official Oberon Wiki, which provides detailed information on game lore, development updates, and game mechanics. The Official Oberon Forums will also serve as the primary discussion area for all things game-related.
In an alternate universe, a planet nearly identical to Earth is home to blissful, peace-loving hippies with a passion for space travel. They have sophisticated spaceships that are controlled through a primitive computer system, the Digital Electronics Corporation PDP 16. In Oberon, players will interact with the game through this computer system. Game features include:
- Travel – Three modes of travel exist in the game: public transportation, charter flights, and player-owned ships.
- Trade – There are four types of markets in the game: general goods, the black market, the stock market, and currency trade.
- Crafting – Oberon includes an open-ended crafting system with features such as reverse engineering, modifications, mass production, and experimentation.
- Resources – Four main areas of resources exist in the game: mineral, liquid, gas, and rare. Resources are required for crafting.
The game is set to release in early 2016, with a private beta launching around Q4 of 2015. The Official Oberon Wiki contains a complete Release Schedule, Game Guide, Latest Screenshots, Developer Information, and more. It is a growing, resourceful hub for learning more about this upcoming title. The Official Game Forum will also grow into an active sounding board and discussion area for players.
