Has Adam Driver fever ever really settled down? For some of us, it started with his Emmy-nominated role in Girls, and for many of us, it started when he took on the role of Kylo Ren to become one of Star Wars’ most iconic villains.
We’ve seen him get divorced, go undercover, and even be extremely Italian in recent flicks, but his next film 65 sees him take on the glorious and terrifying world of Earth, 65 million years ago, when dinosaurs roamed the planet.
It’s time travel meets survival meets pure, white-knuckled, action-packed badassery. Before it hits cinemas on March 9 thanks to Sony Pictures, here are some crucial factors you need to know about your soon-to-be new favourite thrill ride.
It’s Written By The Team Behind One of the Most Suspenseful Movies of the Decade
When a movie promises as many thrills and as much action as 65 does, you know the suspense factor is going to be dialled all the way up to 11. Seeing as Driver’s character has catastrophically crashed back in time to when Earth was ruled by ancient, formidable, and straight-up colossal beasts, it’s safe to say you should be prepared for your heart to drop more than once.
That expectation should then be doubled once you learn that the writing team behind A Quiet Place also wrote 65. A Quiet Place’s suspense is almost never-ending, with cinemas around the world sitting hushed waiting for alien screams to crash through the movie’s haunting silence upon its release. It’s hard to imagine 65 matching that exact type of suspense, but if any writing team knows how to have you on the edge of your seat for an entire movie, it’s this writing team.
PS: go and see 65 in cinemas, just to be safe. No one can laugh at you for flying out of your seat with a blood-curdling scream if everyone’s doing the same thing.
And It’s Produced By A Master of Both Cult Horror and Superhero Blockbuster
When someone mentions the name Sam Raimi to you, your mind likely goes one of two ways. If you’re a horror buff, you know this is the man behind the iconic Evil Dead franchise, as well as other terrifying gems like The Gift and Drag Me To Hell. However, if you’re a superhero stan, then you know Raimi’s responsible for Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man films and, more recently, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the highest-grossing superhero film of 2022.
Not many people can fuse the intricacies of cult horror with the flashy, bombastic action of superhero films and pull it off. Sam Raimi, however, can. With Raimi acting as a producer on 65, you can be sure there’ll be as many scares as there are awe-inspiring action scenes, and that it’ll all come together perfectly on the big screen.
The Score Is Being Composed By The Man Who Wrote Some of History’s Best Soundtracks
We’re talking Men In Black. We’re talking Mission: Impossible. We’re talking Batman Returns. Yes, the four-time Oscar nominee Danny Elfman is once again teaming up with frequent collaborator Sam Raimi for 65. Elfman’s telltale music is obvious in the trailer alone, and we can’t wait to be absolutely terrified when it kicks off after moments of suspenseful silence. This movie is in good hands.
Adam Driver’s Character is 65 Million Years in the Past; Exactly When The Most Famous Dinosaur Ever Was Still Alive
While 65 million years ago is largely considered the point in time when dinosaurs went extinct, the most famous of them all was still roaming the planet. Yes, the T-Rex was around until the very end of the dinosaurs, when a huge asteroid wiped out 75% of the world’s plant and animal species. We don’t know yet if Driver’s character Commander Mills will witness that mass extinction – or fall victim to it – but we do know that dinosaurs are still stalking the film’s rigorous terrain when Mills realises just where he is.
Therefore, it might be a safe bet that our old friend Tyrannosaurus will be igniting terror on the big screen once again.
Adam Driver Is Finally Back To Kick Ass
After a series of more dramatic period roles, 65 is showcasing Adam Driver in all his action-hero, gun-slinging, life-saving glory. With Commander Mills on a mission to travel back home with Araina Greenblatt’s Koa, the stakes are already super high. Throw in bloodthirsty giant reptiles, unfamiliar terrain and impending mass extinction, the only way Mills is coming out of this alive is by Driver channelling his inner action hero and going absolutely beast on these, well, beasts.
65 is in cinemas now.
