After being on hiatus for several years, cult-classic anime Bleach recently made a big comeback on TV. The fancy limited-edition release of Season 1 contains all 13 action-packed episodes and comes with a 72-page book full of concept art and promotional images. This two-disc set also has clean openings and endings, promotional videos, Ichigo Explains shorts, and a recording of the 2023 Anime Expo Panel featuring Masakazu Morita, the voice of protagonist Ichigo Kurosaki. Normally $70, it has been discounted to $60. The standard edition–discounted from $45 to $35–doesn’t come with the art book, but you’re still getting all of the aforementioned digital extras.
This first season of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War proved that the franchise is still one of the best when it comes to action. With the source material manga having concluded several years ago, the animation studio responsible has been free to make episodes without any of the filler or padding that sometimes hurt the original series, allowing the story to unfold more naturally and with better pacing. Mangaka Tito Kube’s distinctive art style has been faithfully replicated, and some of the fight scenes have been incredibly brutal so far.
The final Bleach storyline, The Thousand-Year Blood War details the war between the Soul Reapers and the Wandenreich, a hidden Quincy empire that almost wiped out by the Soul Reapers 1,000 years ago. Back and with an axe to grind, the reborn army launches an invasion of Soul Society in the first season under the leadership of its almighty commander, Yhwach. While it’ll still be a while before the anime concludes–the third season is scheduled to arrive later this year–you can catch up on the entire Bleach saga with these manga collections.
