In the new DC Comics adaptation, Blue Beetle, Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña) receives his powers from the Scarab, an ancient piece of alien technology that gives him exoskeleton armor, complete with all sorts of amazing abilities. However, as our exclusive new clip shows, Jaime’s first encounter with the Scarab isn’t an easy or painless one.
Check out the scene above, as Jaime and his family gather to find out what exactly he’s been given to protect, hidden inside a Big Belly Burger container by Jenny Kord (Bruna Marquezine), only to find out the answer in a rather startling and unsettling way. Neither Jaime’s sister, Milagro (Belissa Escobedo), or his parents, Alberto (Damián Alcázar) and Rocio (Elpidia Carrillo) are quite sure how to react given what they’re facing — and what’s in Jaime’s face — but it’s Uncle Rudy (George Lopez) who finally springs into action, with unfortunate results.
Blue Beetle opens in theaters on August 18.
