If you haven’t figured it out yet, we here at Wikia are pretty excited to see Deadpool. I’ve written about how the film could change the landscape of superhero cinema, and if this first outing goes well, we may even be getting a sequel starring one of Deadpool’s favorite comic book buddies. For fans of Wade Wilson, things are looking pretty good. Well, now they are looking even gooder… er, better.

Box office tracking is already prognosticating about the release weekend for Deadpool (it’s a double header weekend with Valentine’s Day and Presidents Day), and the forecast is sunnier than the Merc with a Mouth’s disposition. Current tracking has Deadpool opening at over $55 million, but some trackers are saying it could blow past $60 million. Pre-release scoring has Deadpool tracking well with both males and females, and this is all before Fox really sinks some serious dough into a heavy marketing push in the week leading up to the film’s release.

And if the film is actually really good? We won’t know the critical response for a little while, but the surprise screenings in New York and Los Angeles were received with overwhelming positivity. Word of mouth could catapult Deadpool into an even bigger opening weekend.

With Deadpool serving as the first superhero movie of 2016, it has a lot to prove. Ir’s a risky property with a hard R-rating, and it’s a character that isn’t as familiar to more mainstream audiences. If the research here is accurate, it looks like a lot more people might soon become very aware of Deadpool. We don’t have any problem with that. The more, the merrier.
