When confronting an intergalactic evil that’s hell bent on wiping you off the map, it’s good to know you have a trusty weapon at your side. The armory provided in Destiny allows for a wide variety of destruction towards The Darkness. The Destiny: Rise of Iron new weapons will be a welcome addition to our arsenal. Some will be highly sought after; others shifted to the side. All will be useful in braving The Plaguelands and putting down the SIVA-infected legions.

While admittedly some of the arms aren’t as “colorful” as in similar games (eg. Borderlands), a lot of them have their place in Guardians’ hearts. But Bungie pays attention and listens. One of the newest additions to both weapons and armor will be Ornaments. They’ll essentially be modifications that you can use to customize both the look and visual effect of your weapon or armor. While it won’t have any effect on stats, it’s a very cool treat and allows you to take customization one step further.

That being said, let’s get to what we’re all excited about: loot! Here’s a look at some of the newest members of the family, as well as the one prodigal son that we’re excited for most of all. Here’s a look at the new weapons in Destiny: Rise of Iron.

Trespasser Exotic new weapon from Destiny Rise of Iron
Guardians are scrambling to get this one before the expansion drops.

The newest Exotic in the Sidearm class of weapons, the Trespasser, is quickly making waves. As of this writing, Bungie has pre-loaded Rise of Iron with the latest patch. The biggest surprise that players discovered is that Trespasser could be acquired immediately. The Sidearm class of weapons are a mixed bag, but the exotic perks of the Trespasser could make it very handy in particular situations. Its first perk gives it burst fire, which is unheard of for this type of weapon. The second perk gives you additional damage and a longer burst when you reload after a kill. Initial player feedback has the gun chewing through ammo like candy, but so far it looks a hell of a lot of fun.

Angel’s Advocate

One of the Scout Rifles that you can get as a drop or purchase from the Vanguard vendor

A new semi-auto rifle under the Scout class, this weapon from the Vanguard vendor has great potential. Unlike Exotics, Legendary weapons and armor have variable perks. This means that with enough luck, you might get this weapon with serviceable special abilities or a drop that has an absolute god roll. The base stats on it show a good blend of rate of fire and power. We’ll just have to see when the expansion hits what our actual options will be.

Nemesis Star

Hold the trigger and let the bullets fly

A sleek new Exotic falling under the Machine Gun class, the Nemesis Star is one a lot of players are excited for. While its special perks are unknown at this point, the stats make it a highly desired addition to the game. We do know that with the high magazine capacity and high stability, you’ll be able to unleash the maximum amount of bullets in a minimum amount of time.

But Not Forgotten

The newest addition to the Sniper family

A new Sniper Rifle that falls under the expansion’s Iron Banner gear. No perks or stats have been revealed, so at this point, all we know is the name and what it looks like. Its design follows the theme for all the new Iron Banner weapons. Based on Vikings and Arthurian knights, they all have a worn, rusted look with heavy modifications such as chainmail and blades attached.

Khvostov 7G-0X

The Khvostov 7G-0X new weapon in Destiny Rise of Iron
What was old is new again.

An Exotic that’s a tribute to your very first gun in Destiny. At the beginning of the first mission, you recover an auto rifle called the Khvostov 7G-02. A simple rifle to get you through the opening moments, it holds sentimental value to players. The updated Exotic variant looks to recapture that feeling but brings the gun up-to-date with power behind it. From what we know so far, it’s fully loaded with tons of perks. What could make it a game-changer, however, is its unique feature. You can alter the gun to be semi-auto, burst fire, or full auto! With the additional perks, you can have six variations of guns. No other gun in the game can change properties like that. So far it’s all theoretical, but this could be a valued asset in almost any situation, PVE or PVP.

Gjallarhorn from Destiny Year 1

It’s back, Guardians. The Exotic of Exotics, the bringer of pain, the Ayatollah of Rock and Rolla… Gjallarhorn. Arguably THE most sought after Exotic weapon in Year One, you could only acquire it through chance. While it won’t be anywhere near as overpowered as it was, it will still be a weapon that everyone will want to acquire as quickly as possible. The good news is that unlike Year One, it isn’t a random drop subject to chance. Now you’ll now be able to acquire it via a questline in the expansion. Unfortunately, we don’t know any of the perks or stats, but it can’t be too far off from the year one version. Rockets and Wolfpack rounds will once again send shivers up the spines of our enemies.

“To each a purpose, and to all a fitting end.”

Two Guardians with some gear from Destiny Rise of Iron
Year 3 Guardians geared up and ready to play.

This was just a taste of the Destiny: Rise of Iron new weapons. Bungie has done a good job teasing out some things for us, but the fun part will be discovering the rest on our own. Who knows what other new Destiny weapons will be out there, or if we’ll see more Year One favorites making a return. Either way, Sept. 20 can’t arrive soon enough. Eyes up, Guardians. They may be coming for our Light, but that means they’re also in our sights.
