Doug Jones is one of the greatest physical actors working today. His filmography is filled with amazing creature and monster roles that show he is absolutely one of the best in the business. Characters from Faun and the Pale Man in Pan’s Labyrinth, Abe Sapien in the Hellboy films and The Silver Surfer are all notable moments in his career. Even his work on television has been filled with memorable roles as the original Master in The Strain, Deathbolt in CW’s Arrow and The Flash and more.

When it comes to iconic creature features the granddaddy of them all is the iconic classic Nosferatu. A new part remake, part remix of the film is being produced and none other than Doug Jones is playing the vampire Count Orlok. This is great news for fans of creature features and the golden age of horror movies. Nosferatu is a monster that predates the Universal Monsters by nearly a decade and is still considered one of the greatest silent films of all time.

Nosferatu, a Symphony of Horror was released in 1922. The film has seen countless releases on home video and has been cut and re-edited more than almost any other movie in history. Nosferatu has been used in music videos, documentaries, horror compilations and has is referenced in everything from television shows to cartoons and almost any other form of media imaginable. Bram Stoker’s Dracula is the reason F.W. Murnau’s film even exists and Max Schreck’s fascinating and haunting portrayal of the vampire still resonates with audiences today.

Can a new Nosferatu actually work?

The idea to remix and remake a true classic is a tough sell. Films like Night of the Living Dead and the Fritz Lang masterpiece Metropolis aren’t always well received when the original is altered. Trying to recapture the magic of iconic cinema doesn’t always work out well, but director David Lee Fisher shows that he is up for the task. His previous work with The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari did a good job of honoring the original and many of his team will be returning for this production nearly a decade later. The best part about this is Doug Jones is currently shooting his scenes as Count Orlok and there is no one in the industry better suited for the task.
