For many anime fans, E3 2017 was all about Dragon Ball FighterZ, the brand new 2.5D fighting game based on the Dragon Ball Z anime. It’s in development by Arc System Works, which also made Persona 4 Arena, and it claims to be an in-depth fighting game that hits all the anime high-notes.
And now it’s got a little bit better. In the latest issue of Japanese magazine, Jump, as reported by Siliconera, fan-favourite character Future Trunks will be part of the Dragon Ball FighterZ roster. There’s no doubt he’ll be going Super Saiyan and using his trademark sword, but currently there are no specific details on his fighting style in the game.
Future Trunks
Future Trunks is the hybrid Saiyan/human son of Vegeta and Bulma from an alternative future – of course. He’s serious, cautious and comes from a future where all the Z Fighters were murdered by Android 17 and Android 18, so you can understand why he’s a little on the nervy side. However, he’s a gifted fighter, swordsman and a Super Saiyan to boot.
But aside from Trunks, developer Arc System Works has a huge number of characters to choose from for the Dragon Ball FighterZ roster, but so far we know the following will be playable in the game:
Goku
It wouldn’t be much of a Dragon Ball Z fighting game without having Goku in it. The main protagonist of the anime series, he originally had black hair and was named Kakarot. But now he’s Goku, blonde and proud, and comes packing quite the fire punch.
Vegeta
The prince of the fallen Saiyan race, and father of Trunks, Vegeta has powers that equal Goku. He’s had quite the story arc, with the anime series seeing him go from a bad guy to an anti-hero and eventually working his way back to hero.
Gohan
As Goku’s eldest son, there’s plenty of pressure on Gohan to be a fighter, but with him being half Saiyan and half human, he’s got plenty of power on his side. However, he’s known to be a scholar and a protective fighter rather than an antagonistic one, making sure his loved ones are safe with his fireballs, fists and hair. Expect that to change a little in Dragon Ball FighterZ.
Frieza
Saiyan Prince Frieza is the one that started the entire Dragon Ball Z series, with his actions leading to Goku arriving on Earth, so it’s handy that he’s here in the Dragon Ball FighterZ roster. Originally the emperor of the universe with his own imperial army, Frieza is now the chosen representative of Universe 7. Don’t forget he’s also a descendant of the big bad guy called Chilled. Chilled and Frieza, get it?
Cell
Cell is one of the best fighters because he was designed to possess all the abilities of the greatest fighters to have ever set foot on Earth. He’s supposed to be the perfect warrior, but of course, he turned evil and is the main antagonist of the Cell Arc in Dragon Ball Z.
Majin Buu
Majin Buu is a shapeshifter that comes in various forms, including Kid Buu, Uub, Good Buu, Miss Buu and more. What form he’ll take in Dragon Ball FighterZ is up for debate, but how can you deny the happy little face of Innocent Buu?
Dragon Ball FighterZ is currently scheduled for a 2018 release date on Xbox One, PS4 and PC, with a Switch version coming if you ask hard enough.
