Marvel Studios’ Eternals introduced ten new superheroes into the MCU, which also meant ten new superhero costumes – which turned out to pose quite a challenge for those working on the film. Costume designer Sammy Sheldon is a veteran of projects like X-Men: First Class, Kick-Ass 2, and Marvel Studios’ own Ant-Man (and the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania), but describes the Eternals costumes as “one of the most difficult superhero costumes I’ve ever made” in Fandom’s exclusive look at a clip from the behind the scenes features from the film’s home release on Digital, 4K, Blu-ray and DVD.
Check out the clip above, which comes from the “Immortalized” featurette on Eternals, as Sheldon and Costume FX Supervisor Ivo Coveny explain the challenges in making costumes described by the filmmakers as looking like a second skin, rather than armor, but which also needed to incorporate imagery of the cosmos.
As it turned out, thanks to the detail being put into them, the costumes weren’t ready until months into the Eternals production schedule, leading to some big emotions for the cast when they got to put them on. In the clip, you’ll also hear what Kumail Nanjiani (“Kingo“), Angelina Jolie (“Thena“), Lia McHugh (“Sprite“), Gemma Chan (“Sersi“), and Salma Hayek (“Ajak“) had to say about what it felt like to finally suit up as a Marvel hero.
Eternals is now available on Digital and will be released on 4K, Blu-ray and DVD on February 15.
The special features include an informative audio commentary by Co-Writer/Director Chloé Zhao, joined by visual effects supervisors Stephane Ceretti and Mårten Larsson, plus two featurettes, a gag reel, and four deleted scenes.
