SAN FRANCISCO, CA – June 24, 2021 – Fandom, the world’s largest fan platform, announced today the launch of its LGBTQIA+ Community Guidelines, providing better online trust and safety measures within its 250,000 Wiki Communities, in an effort to make Fandom a more welcoming and safe environment for people of all orientations and gender identities. Additionally, the company will host its first ever “Power of Pride” event on its Twitch page on June 28, where Fandom’s top content creators who are also openly LGBTQIA+ will participate in a roundtable discussion to talk about LGBTQIA+ characters in entertainment they find as empowering role models, why Fandom is an inclusive place for them, moments of allyship from fellow community members, and to share external resources for anyone who needs help for issues surrounding sexuality and gender.
“Fandom is committed to inclusivity and equity for all fans and I’m proud that these community guidelines showcase that commitment,” said Perkins Miller, CEO of Fandom. “We are a global company and it’s our responsibility to embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion to serve our fan communities, not just today or this month, but all year long. I know that even small actions, applied consistently, can have real impact and this is one step Fandom has taken in this vitally important area.”
Fandom is the world’s largest fan platform with more than 250,000 fan communities spanning TV, film, gaming, streaming and more, with over 300 million active monthly users. Fandom’s Wiki Communities are run by passionate creators who are experts in their respective fandoms, with an average of 165,000 monthly editors actively updating their wikis. Due to the breadth and depth of Fandom’s content, establishing enforceable guidelines among its creators is vitally important to ensure every fan feels safe and welcomed. Additionally, Fandom is marking Pride Month with its first “Power of Pride” event, celebrating the diverse voices from its fan communities as they explore LGBTQIA+ representation in entertainment.
