It’s official: Square Enix is remaking the decade-old Final Fantasy XII in crisp HD for the PlayStation 4. The game will be based on a Japanese version of the game titled Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job System and will bear the name Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age when it hits the PS4 in Japan, Europe, and the U.S. sometime next year. Check out the teaser trailer below.
In addition to revamped graphics, the game will sport a number of technical improvements that modernize it for the new decade, including reduced load times, auto-save, and an entirely re-recorded soundtrack.
Final Fantasy XII is considered by many to be one of the best installments in the series and is often applauded for its expansive world and dynamic battle system. The game’s direction was mostly handled by Yasumi Matsuno, the visionary designer also known for his work on Vagrant Story and Final Fantasy Tactics. Though health reasons forced him to abandon the project halfway through, his signature style is apparent throughout the game.
As always, check out the Final Fantasy wiki to learn more about the game.
