The Gilmore Girls is beloved for many reasons, chief among them is the show’s snappy dialogue — fast-talking characters who always have a quip and a comeback for anything.  Each character in Gilmore Girls gets their share of fantastically clever lines. With four new episodes arriving on Netflix this weekend, let’s take a look back at some of the best quotes from the show’s seven seasons. From Emily’s sass, to Kirk’s quirky sentiments, and Lorelai’s endless wit, this show deserves a prize for some of the best dialogue ever uttered on television.

Lorelai Gilmore

Half of Lorelai’s famous lines revolve around her second favorite thing in the entire world (assuming, of course, that Rory is her first) – coffee.

Rory Gilmore

Rory is the queen of independence – but sometimes, everyone needs their mommy! Especially if their mommy is none other than Lorelai Gilmore.

Emily Gilmore

Sassy might as well be Emily Gilmore’s middle name. Lorelai had to get her incessant wit from someone!

Richard Gilmore

Sweet Richard Gilmore is hilarious, whether he means to be or not. Plus, who hasn’t “cranked Metallica” at least once in their lifetime?

Lane Kim

Let’s be real, Lane Kim has risked eternal damnation at least five hundred times in her life. We think that the gods will make an exception for Lane in the name of rock and roll!

Mrs. Kim

If anyone knows what boys like, it’s Mrs. Kim. Boys definitely don’t like funny girls! Or rock and roll. Or skirts. Or girls who don’t go to church…

Jess Mariano

The comeback king title forever goes to Jess. I think that a Jess and Dean West Side Story dance-off episode would break the internet, in the best way possible.

Let’s be real. This entire list could be comprised entirely of Kirk quotes. Stay weird, Kirk.

Paris Gellar

Paris is not exactly the type to sugarcoat her words. This, in turn, makes for some brilliant one-liners (most of which involve her suggesting to people that they fling themselves off of buildings).

Michel Gerard

Michel frowns a majority of the time, but we can’t help but smile every time he opens his mouth to tell Lorelai and Sookie how he really feels.

We can be sure that Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life will be full of even more hilariously witty lines when it arrives on Netflix Friday, November 25.
