Good Omens comes from the brilliantly twisted minds of Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. The series follows an angel teaming up with a demon to stop an 11-year-old Antichrist from bringing about the end of the world. The only problem is, they lost the Antichrist when he was swapped at birth and ended up living a cozy life in a small English town… Did we mention the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse also have nuclear plans to kick start the war between heaven and hell? Hold tight, this is going to get weird.
AZIRAPHALE AND CROWLEY
The kingdoms of Heaven and Hell might not like each other too much, but that doesn’t get in the way of Aziraphale and Crowley’s unspoken friendship. Crowley was the snake who tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden, so that’s why David Tennant is rocking those creepy yellow eyes. And Michael Sheen plays Aziraphale, an angel who owns a bookshop in London. They pretend like they’re not friends – but they’re a match made in Heaven and Hell. Their quest to save the world might sound heroic, but really they just like their comfortable Earthly lives. Fair enough. Luckily they’ll also have some help from a witch, Anathema, and the descendant of a witch-hunter, Newt. That’ll be an interesting combination…
THE ANTICHRIST
Aziraphale and Crowley both assume the Antichrist is the son of an American diplomat called Warlock. They influence him over the years so he’ll never be able to choose between good and evil – effectively stopping the apocalypse. Nice job, world saved… Not quite. Eleven years ago after an accidental baby mix-up the real Antichrist, Adam Young, went to live in a small English town with regular parents. When he realizes how powerful he’s becoming, the war between heaven and hell begins. He starts messing with reality by resurrecting lost cities and even summoning aliens that come in peace… When we were eleven, we just wanted a cool bike.
FOUR HORSEMEN OF THE APOCALYPSE
Just as things couldn’t get any worse, the unlikely duo also have to contend with the motorcycle gang from Hell, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. No seriously – War, Famine, Pollution and Death are all bikers. Pestilence retired after Penicillin was discovered, so Pollution took over, how modern. Don’t expect Heaven or Hell to step in and stop the Horsemen, they’re quite happy with a war. Especially since Jon Hamm’s angel Gabriel is in charge of the apocalypse beginning on time. His role’s been expanded from a minor appearance in the original book with Neil Gaiman taking his story arc from a planned sequel to make Jon Hamm a supernatural force to be reckoned with.
Aziraphale and Crowley must really love their Earth lives to go up against all this.
