The transformation of Bruce Wayne continues to unfold this season on Gotham, and the stakes will be higher than ever with even greater challenges from iconic DC Comics villains. The cast of Gotham arrived at New York Comic Con on Sunday to talk about what’s to come.
With the Court of Owls decimated, the aftermath of the Tetch virus crippling the city, and every (surviving) villain in Gotham’s underworld jockeying for power, Jim Gordon and the GCPD will have their hands full this season.
Ra’s al Ghul, played by Alexander Siddig, returns.
Ra’s al Ghul’s motives are as nefarious as ever, and he’s working closely with someone who has ties to Gordon. “I’m insane,” Siddig says.
“I explain to Bruce what my intentions are and start to exercise some of those plans, but I’m keeping some of the motives to myself,” he adds. “And Barbara is easily the most useful and persuasive ally I could find.”
Solomon Grundy emerges in the form of a familiar character.
An immortal zombie-supervillain from DC Comics lore, Solomon Grundy, is coming to Gotham for Season 4. And he’s taking the form of a character who will be very familiar to viewers: Butch.
Although Butch seemingly survived being shot by Barbara, it turns out he’s actually still dead — but alive and a zombie.
Actor Drew Powell, who plays Butch/Grundy explains, “Grundy doesn’t remember anything when he comes out. People are gonna be quite shocked to find Butch looking like Grundy.”
Grundy will be paired with Cory Michael Smith’s Ed Nygma this season. “It’s fun to see these two ‘Laurel and Hardy’ around,” says Powell. “It’s the dream team you didn’t know you needed.
Gotham is airing on a new night this season, moving to Thursdays on FOX at 8/7c.
