Three years after the second season wrapped up, Jack Ryan Season 3 is now streaming on Prime Video. The new season of the spy thriller takes Jack to Russia, where a rogue faction has infiltrated the government in an attempt to restore the Soviet Union and kick-start a World War. The mission is disrupted when Jack is falsely charged with treason and the CIA puts out a Red Notice for his arrest. Now on the run from enemies and his own government, Jack must rely on old friends and dangerous new allies to uncover the hardline Russian faction and save the world from nuclear war.

John Krasinski returns as the titular analyst-turned-field agent, as does Wendell Pierce as CIA Officer James Greer and Michael Kelly as former CIA Officer Mike November. They’re joined by intriguing new characters including Czech President Alena Kovac (Nina Hoss) and CIA Rome Station Chief Elizabeth Wright (Betty Gabriel), who all have a part to play in the unfolding conspiracy.

The end of Season 2 left us with big questions that have only grown bigger going into Season 3. Like, will Jack’s dark side continue to emerge when the stakes are raised over the course of the mission? And what will happen to Greer now that his poor health is out in the open? There’s also the matter of the Soviet conspiracy introduced in the new trailers – who’s involved and how far will they go to achieve their goals? Below are five burning questions we have for Jack Ryan Season 3.

WILL JACK GO OFF THE DEEP END AGAIN?

Jack’s mentor and good friend Jim Moreno was assassinated in Season 2, which drove Jack to hunt down his killers no matter the cost. It was quite a turning point for the normally level-headed analyst, who has always believed in letting cooler heads prevail, and we’re wondering if he’s going to be able to pull himself back from this ledge. His quest for revenge saw him repeatedly put his own life and his team in danger – the kind of behaviour which could prove even more dangerous when he’s on the run from multiple governments. Or maybe he’ll face some kind of fallout for his actions, which would have ignited a crisis between the US and Venezuela.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO GREER?

Season 2 was not kind to Greer, who was diagnosed with a heart condition that only worsened when he was captured and tortured. The season ended with Greer deciding to step back from field duty, a revelation that left us with a lot of questions. For one, Greer openly dislikes desk duty, so we’re not sure how long he’ll last in this role before he sees more action, either intentionally or unintentionally. Greer is still a major character in Season 3, so at least we know this isn’t a way to slowly write out the character – but we’re still wondering what role Greer will play in Season 3, especially with Jack, his friend and mentee, on the run from the CIA. We can’t imagine Greer taking this lying down, but how far is he willing to go to protect his friend?

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO NOVEMBER?

Perhaps Greer taking a desk job will make way for Mike November to be a more prominent figure in the field alongside Jack? November left the CIA after the events of Season 2, but he’s featured heavily in the Season 3 trailers so we’re optimistic that the rugged operative will play a big role in the action moving forward.

WILL JACK CLEAR HIS NAME AND RETURN TO THE CIA?

“You’re about to cross a line, and there may be no going back,” November says to Jack in the Season 3 trailer.

“Because I’m trying to do the right thing,” Jack replies, and we can’t help but worry this is a sign of things to come.

Jack is driven to a fault while on a mission, and if he’s already been burned by the CIA then what’s to stop them making him the fall guy? Even if he manages to stop the Russian conspiracy and avert a war, will the CIA condemn his actions, or will they welcome him back into the force after his innocence becomes clear?

WILL JACK SUCCEED IN STOPPING THE WAR?

Jack Ryan has been renewed for a fourth and final season and while the details are still under wraps, the start of a nuclear war would certainly make for a very tense and climactic final season. Although it’s unlikely as every season so far has focused on its own threat, it’s not totally out of the question that the events of Season 3 will set up the future of the show. And if not, we can only imagine what spectacular action scenes and international conspiracies await! Only time – and a binge session on Prime Video – will tell.
