LAIKA, the animation studio that brought us Coraline and Paranorman, is like the arthouse Pixar. While their stop-motion films are still family friendly, they target a slightly higher age range and haven’t shied away from creepy or strange elements in their films. That appears to be true of Kubo and the Two Strings, their newest film, which now has a full length trailer. Check it out!
Hey, Beatles fans — did you notice the music? That’s right, it’s an epic rendition of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.” But the music is just the icing on the cake. LAIKA’s animation has always been beautiful, but Kubo takes it to another level, promising a sweeping fantasy adventure that’s as beautiful as it is big. The trailer is full of the loving, detailed designs that LAIKA does so well. Just look at the fur on Monkey, the texture on Beetle’s armor, or all the individual feathers on the capes of the evil twin Sisters. For a closer look at some of those designs, we’ve got some spiffy new posters for you.
Kubo and the Two Strings will be released on August 19.
